Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

While I understand the need to shape P2P traffic during office hours, I dont think that I should be only able to download at 10 K/sec (edit: I was being optimistic, make it 5 K/sec) on a 400 K/sec connection.

I am currently on 4 stars, so unless the network is under so much strain that its about to fall over, I dont understand why traffic throughput is basically zero

Getting incredibly terrible speeds today. Can barely open anything on 2mbps. Granted, I am on 2 stars, but I'm talking speed tests below 0.5mbps, and real world download speeds comparable to 56k modem (4-6kB/s). Google.co.za timing out, News24 takes a good 2-3 mins to load, searches don't even return results. Could barely log in here to post this. In the process of upgrading to 4mbps, but if this is the kind of speeds I can expect, I'm not sure I want to anymore.

The network is quite busy today.

Seems everybody decided to stay home because of friday the 13th and pulling much more than any other Friday during the day. Compared to this morning, things are starting to looking much better capacity wise.

We are keeping an eye on things, but September going to be quite a busy month with all the new apple releases coming up and not to mention, tv season starting again in the US.

That is the correct support process to follow.

sorry

still dont think that just because the network is busy, I get shaped into the ground. I've never had issues like this before. When I've needed something during office hours (which is SELDOM) in the past, it was fine.

if it was 100 or even 50 K/sec I could stomach that... but Im getting 10 is not on.

today its a problem, and it just happens to be a legal download. Go figure.

edit : 0.9K/sec

This sounds a bit ominous - are you giving us early warning that our speeds are going to drastically degrade :(

I am just pointing out that September month is going to be a real busy month based on various factors. There will definitely be an increase in demand in September and then in October you will see things dropping again.

If I get home at 16h30 and my latency to EU is screwed and I cannot play games Im gonna RAAAAAGE

Just saying :)

@Janitor

Can I please get clarification on exactly how bandwidth is allocated when an account is being shared by two parties. ie. two simultaneous connections

Ignore network conditions, and lets assume that is well and dandy and its 3am in the morning. Zero connectivity issues.

bottom line here, is id like to know if this is a dynamic management based on who is pulling what at the time or is it simply a case of, "ok, they got two connections, give em 50/50" regardless of traffic either is pulling.

Thank you

As I have mentioned on this forum before, there is no specific allocation or split percentage of b/w. Concurrent connections will 'compete' for the available bandwidth which means one could end up with 90% and the other left with 10%.

The idea behind concurrent sessions is not for sharing accounts/costs but more for using the account at work during the day and then the same account at home during the evening.

thats fine thats all I wanted to know. based on what you said now, if one account is doing ZERO then the other account should be in a position to pull full speed. dependent on network conditions.

I know its not ideal to have two account running at the same time, but I got one account that does some email and browsing (parents) and then Im the main user. Even having said that, we sitting on 35GB for the MONTH. Hardly high usage, regardless of what planet you live on.

OK so... Im going to chalk my P2P 5 K/sec download and HTTP multithreaded 150 K/sec download down to the fact that you guys are experiencing high network activity.

Yes? No?

Correct.

I agree with you here. 35GB is nothing. One of the MyBB users did over 400Gigs last month on his Plugg account.

Yes? No?

Yes. It is important to keep in mind the priority is applied in real time depending on usage on the network from minute to minute.
When there are plenty of capacity available on the network you will be able to use more per month, of course the opposite is also true for when everybody starts to pull as much as possible.

Saw you online just a few minutes ago and you have not replied.

What is going on???

Well, I can only assume my mobile phone connected whilst I am offline (read, out having a life ;-)). Please remember that these forums are not Plugg's official support medium. You should really get hold of [email protected] (08611 PLUGG) for a quick response especially since I do not browse these forums 24/7.

With that said, the network is performing fine at this moment. Much less demand than earlier today.

Your traceroute shows hops 1-6 without any latency, and once it jumps over to google's network you see quite a jump in latency. I did a quick trace right now from my line and it seems fine now.

Code:
velocidade#traceroute ip [url]www.google.co.za[/url]

Translating "www.google.co.za"...domain server (168.210.2.2) [OK]

Type escape sequence to abort.

My line at home sync at just over 8Mb and using MyBB's speed test functionality..

Code:
velocidade#show dsl interface atm0/0/0 | incl Speed

It only like that because i am on a different account. Let me switch to my other plugg account then you can test it again.

EDIT : Seems fixed now. Hope it stays fine.

Hello Janitor .....

I am not very happy with the current throttling on my 4mb uncapped account . For a few days now during the day my speeds are very slow , browsing and email especially . I contacted your support , they informed me that I have used 110gb for the month so far and I am propably being shaped . Firslty , he admited it is not a lot of usage considering some of the heavy downloaders out there . He appologised for not being able to tell me what the threshold is , since IS couldnt tell you guys either . I can understand throttling heavy downloads , .........but browsing and email to the point that it becomes frustrating ?....thats not cool .
I will be cancelling my account since I do not believe my usage warrants making my internet experience miserable during the day !

You are not supplying much information to work with, so if you could PM me with your Plugg username I can take it from there.

As for the thresholds comment; there are no thresholds to be made public as I have mentioned on this forum before, it is all dynamic, from minute to minute depending on network usage at the time.

If you could send me a traceroute included with your username, that will be great.
