Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I suspect you are are not managing your downloads well. I use the internet normally during the hours of 6am till 23:00pm. I surf, watch a odd youtube clip, play Facebook games, listen to podcasts. I download (news servers / steam) between 23:00 and 6 am, 7 days a week. On 32gb for February already. I am on 5 stars, have been for the past 2 weeks or so.

Guilty as charged. I don't manage my downloads at all. I have automated downloads running in the background whenever the files become available and I tend to transfer large amounts of data over ssh during office hours.

From your message it sounds like time of day of the transfers also affect the star rating. I have looked around and could not find a clear description of how it works. Anybody have a link to such a description? The annoying thing is that in the last week I have done around 7GB total and I have still only gone up to 3 stars.

I guess I could easily set up nzbget and transmission to pause downloads during the day. On the other hand with WebAfrica's recent capped price cuts that might be the way to go.

Thanks janitor and everyone else. That is a fairly good description.

I guess that the IS network is a bit overloaded at the moment. According to my logs I have transferred 33.07GB in the last 10 days and 140GB since 1 January. If that is enough to warrant 3 stars (even if 70% of that was during business hours) the network must be overloaded.

Time to look at all the options again.

If you need massive data during peak hours, a capped account is the only way to go, unless you want to pay the premium for business uncapped. If you are however OK to stick to the night for downloads, these accounts do provide great value. I did 340gb last month and was mostly on 4 and 5 stars.

Hi Guys

How do i log in to the new site? I need to check my account and it just goes back to the log in screen when i try.

Why should we stay with Plugg then? Might as well go to Incredible Connection, right?

I have jumped ship to IC and happy for now. I did drop to 2 stars after pulling 90gigs but after a week I am back to 5 stars.

Once I heard prices were dropping I started following this thread again but it looks like I will stay with IC.

When you have 2 concurrent connections on a Plugg account, does it half the speed like the IC accounts?

IC account does not half the speed as far as I can see - b/w is shared between the two at any point in time.

So at work, I limit the b/w to 2 meg which means that home always gets at least 8 meg - when work is unused (after hours), home get's the full 10 meg.

That's how it works on plugg as well as far as I know.

[real pity we don't have a connection rep here]

Or an IS Ignite Rep whatever that is:

They are resold IS accounts so the same rules it seems.

not really.

think somebody mentioned this before, but see it as IS providing the pizza dough and toppings with each reseller building their own types of pizzas to sell.

j.

OK this is rediculous, where before I was on a 1MB plugg account and averaged 3 stars now on a 2MB IC account I average 1 star. The EXACT same usage patterns. Is this a 1MB to 2MB issue or a PLUGG to IC issue?

IC is a resller of IS and have no bearing on Plugg as a brand. Incredible Connection as a reseller decides themselves how they want to package the various options available to them via IS and sell it.

Not sure what you mean by 'Plugg to IC' issue though.
