Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Not sure what's up with IS at the moment, but can't stream anything. Pings and tracerts are all fine, but videos won't buffer at all. Tried a bunch of different places, in case it was one in particular, but all the same. Switched to my Afrihost account, and everything works flawlessly. My star rating is 3, so shaping shouldn't be a problem?

Janitor prefers if you post your tracert's so he has something to work with.

Not just that, but the more information you supply the easier it is to find a possible issue/solution especially when I know the network is working like it should. If you do not want to paste the information in public then PM or email me.

That 2nd hop definitely doesn't looking good. Which exchange do you work connect through?

Somerset West, a know congested exchange (apologies, there are no such thing)

I have reported the line faulty, since I don't receive the minimum specification for 4mbit. (Something I have learned on a previous occasion. If you don't get the minimum speed, then they will look at it, anything above that is bonus and not considered a problem.) Got an sms to say that they have resolved it, but still bad, so I re-logged a fault just to be told that a fault is already reported. Sigh!

Hey Guys

Anyone having slow international browsing speed tonight?

Edit: Cant load any live streaming site like twitch.tv/azubu.tv.

Edit2: International speedtest doesn't even load for me. It will ping but when it gets to the download then it just hangs.
Local is fine

Tested my AH account and international is flying there.

My international is still terrible. Is there anyone else with this problem?

Cant even load twitter or Facebook.

International is working fine here (4mb uncapped). I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago though, but it eventually fixed itself.

New IPC Bandwidth installed for KZN

Howdy,

Whilst mopping up some water that came in through an open window, I overheard some Engineers talking; it seems that Internet Solutions enabled their newly installed IPC at their Umhlanga offices over the weekend. This means that all DSL users in KZN will be routed over that IPC rather than Johannesburg.

Should you do experience problems ito latency, please log it with Plugg support so that they can address it immediately. Please include as much information as possible.

Now you need to excuse me. I am very close in tracking down the person that left that window open in this weather.

Howdy,

How are things looking today? Are you still having some international issues connecting from KZN?

Things are back to normal. Got super busy these last few days and forgot to post that things are good.
I phoned tech support over the weekend and after a few hours they sorted it out.

I have a problem which I hope you can solve.

As you can see, its a pretty solid connection!

Now my problem is Diablo 3, during the week the game has extreme lagg, you wont expect this from a line with these stats.

With the tests results above (excellent ping and throughput) the in-game ping is as high as 1300 and does not go below 500 with it being the only one using the network at that time during the day(weekends pings are in the 220s).

I assume this is due to the D3 traffic being put on low-priority by Plugg because it is seen as peer-to-peer traffic. I know that peer to peer traffic is generally throttled during the the week days, but on weekends it is usually full-speed.
I also noticed that D3 has low latency during weekends, which kind of confirm my assumption above.
D3 uses port numbers between 49000 and 52000 for incoming connections, which is kind of in the range of torrent traffic and why I think it is Plugg that is slowing it down...

So, will you please check on your side, and do the needed janitorial duties?

Howdy,

I have a problem which I hope you can solve.

Let me have a chat to a couple of people tomorrow and see if there is a way to be able to distinguish the D3 traffic from normal torrents.

Could you email me or send a DM with your username please.

I'll revert back.

My IS-based VOX uncapped/unshaped account is experiencing horribly degraded service today (although I've been having intermittent responsiveness problems for close onto a week as well, where a requested website will take many seconds before it starts loading). Pings are 100% normal for me, but packet loss and UDP/TCP service latency is just shocking. Using my telkom account until this is sorted

Edit: a buddy of mine in cape town is having the same exact issue with his IS uncapped account. Looks like something's up with the IS network at the moment

I do not see any issues on IS' infrastructure at the moment other than it is quite busy.

VOX is a reseller of IS and they control how they want their accounts to work, can not speak for them. As for your buddy, unless he is with Plugg, he must be using another reseller of IS. Again, resellers control their own packages and accounts.

IS merely provides the base of the pizza and various toppings. It is up the each reseller to decide how they want to build and advertise their pizza menu.

@Janitor: Yup I do understand that - my friend isn't with VOX though, which is why I assumed it was a general IS fault. Will see how it goes when I log back into the VOX account tomorrow and take it from there :) Ty for response

From what you describe, sounds like shaping on the account. But, best to get in touch with VOX to confirm :)

Quick update on the D3 slowness.

We think we have found the issue with D3. Our Controlling engine saw some of D3 traffic for behavioral Uploading/Download and encrypted bittorrent, and ended up classifying it as p2p (just like you pointed out). We have now added a specific /22 assigned to Blizzards into the gaming prioritizing group together with some other rules to make sure they do not fall into the same category as p2p.

If D3 gamers (with a star rating of 3 and above) could let me know how things are looking now in terms of latency; there might still be some ips to be added but this should be a good start.

Well, now you need to excuse me, I have a game of Pac-Man to complete.
