I am not sure where OpenWeb is getting their information from, but, I am not seeing any outages listed anywhere.

All systems are green.

Yep - using Openweb right now without hassle. Perhaps they're on backup?
Afrihost and Axxess are struggling though]

I can not speak for other ISPs, but I can say that there are no outages on Internet Solutions' network today; not now, not earlier.

Howdy,

Seems to be a Cape Town issue..
Janitor, can you please advise when the issue will be resolved so I can move the clients to an alternative network.

There are still extra latency on some of the IPC links in Cape Town, and we will continue with testing this coming Friday morning to determine the cause.

However, the traceroutes that you supplied earlier

4 8 ms 17 ms 13 ms cdsl2-ctn-vl2276.ip.isnet.net [196.38.72.125]
4 8 ms 84 ms 8 ms cdsl2-ctn-vl2276.ip.isnet.net [196.38.72.125]
4 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms cdsl2-ctn-vl2276.ip.isnet.net [196.38.72.125]

that spike on hop 4 is not related to the "IPC Latency" we are experiencing; it might just have been that the router had a jump in resources at the time. Your third traceroute shows that it is back to normal.

I will however keep an eye on that device to see if it's continues like that during the day/night.

Thanks for pointing that out to me.

What I can say, the network is currently quite busy seeing that Microsoft released some patches/updates through-out the night (200 meg +) and we seeing almost double of the usual traffic via Akamai where people's systems are busy retrieving it.

But no outages :)

Wow Janitor! You need a break boet - talking to yourself there :D

As I've mentioned earlier today, just to confirm.

START DATE: Fri Mar 15 2013 5:30 (SAST)
END DATE: Fri Mar 15 2013 6:00 (SAST)
EXPECTED DURATION: Less than 30 minutes
IMPACT: Clients might experience increased latency/packet loss

Hopefully this will be the last set of tests in order to resolve the issue.

Just got a call from Plugg(Kalpesh), still trying to help me and still trying to extract water from the Telkom rock - unsuccessfully, obviously.

Have to commend their service, as I can't imagine any better service from anyone else. I have been frustrated before, but this frustration is not aimed at Plugg directly.

How does this work, 4mb uncapped on a line syncing at 10mb

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2579803302.png

As I've pointed out on this forum, we based our shaping on network capacity. When there are capacity available we do allow users to burst higher than what they are paying for especially when it comes to school holidays, weekends and so forth.

Then after 8pm its useless!

This would be strange, could you please log a call with support so that they can have a look.

Thanks

Out of interest is any one else having issues with the twitch streams? Over the last week they have seemed to take very long to load. Like now trying to load the MLG stream is timing out (The web page and not the actual stream viewer) but for example yesterday it worked perfectly.

I am still going to do some of the normal things like reset router etc but it is something that I have noticed. Is anyone else noticing it?

I am in the Rondebosch area in Cape Town

Yeah now I have it streaming but I have made sure not to reload anything and it seems to be fine.

Edit: Looks like it's just me (or, my area). Tried a different ISP and had the same issue. About 1 hour later it came right, and all is good. Maybe Telkom were working on one of the main exchanges locally.

Original: Anyone else experiencing high latency/speed issues today?

The first hop is fine, but then it shoots up to 200+. Maybe a KZN issue, but it's on the IS network.

2nd hop would be your exchange so yeah that would coincide with your issues. All is fine for me in the Durban area.

Howdy,

Internet Solutions is in the process of evaluating their wholesale rates for their resellers and only then will IS be able to make a call on Plugg's pricing. Plugg being the consumer division of Internet Solutions; it is a fine line to ensure that you do not compete against your own customers.

So way back in January you said that you guys were looking at the prices. Now it's almost April. Are you going to stop looking and adjust the prices one day? Or is that hoping for too much?
