Pokemon Go!

Is Pinsir any good for battling? caught two at around 900cp on the weekend and I have never tried to battle for gyms.

There is an unofficial event at Emmerentia dam this weekend. It's not really an event, cause you have to organize things for it to be an event. But there may or may not be a few hundred people playing pokemon there on Saturday

Awesome, gf and I will be heading there this coming weekend

I don't understand why people hold off on that. What fun is the game then? You're just running around with a glorified pedometer if you don't play gyms.

if you are in an area where there is little to no rock and fire type pinsir is quite good. if the gyms are all water pokemon (not Vaperon) then sure it can take a gym.
but if there are a few ponyta or Arcanites or Flareaon on top of the gym pinsir just does nothing and dies super quick.

but do not let that stop you. take on gyms. its what makes the game fun.

Taking gyms is only good where you have a team of two or more. I took a gym 3x in the space of an hour at a restaurant the other day.. fun but pointless as they had teams of 2-4. Eventually I gave up and moved on..

Why is Vaporeon so strong?
I had a look at the max CP values (http://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-list)
And I have some serious questions as to some of those Pokémon. Some of the things I expected to be quite strong (and which was tradidiotnally strong in the games) are nowhere where I expected them to be.

I think like most games which have a P2P part there will be a lot of complaints and then they will try and balance with weakness mods

For people in Vereeniging or close by, looks like there are six pokestops and a pokemon gym at Magic garden centre nursery all in close proximity...

Good place to refuel pokeballs while having a coffee

so serious question.

how would you take advantage of pokemon go if you owned a restaurant near or on pokestops/gyms?
I just feel like there is so much we can do with this game.

I want to try and organise somehting for hte Benoni SPCA. there are like 4 pokestops and 2 gyms right by them, and loads of space to walk the dogs. I feel like they should jump on board and get some sort of event organised, maybe they can make some money for the shelter, maybe they can get a few adoptions, who knows.

For a restaurant - Apply to be a Pokestop. Post a sign stating that anyone throwing a lure will get a free drink. Profit.

Not sure how you are going to do it with the SPCA thou.

Its pointless taking on a gym with 200 odd cp pokemons when the lowest in the gym is 700+
The Pinsir's are the first higher levels I have caught but I never see them in gyms so was wondering if they were any good.

the thing is I am thinking about approaching them to organise an event, there are pokestops, they might be able to close off the road there so you can walk the doggies up and down there and get a few pokestops while doing it.

then let them charge a small entrance fee so they still make some money.

would the people here be willing to do something like that? say R30 entrance, that is going directly to the SPCA who is hosting the event, you get to play with some poor homeless dogs, maybe help make a difference?

Thanks, will give it a go. Im fairly close to being able to evolve an eevee so that should help my efforts along.

Its actuallly helpful to check which pokemon counter which. This makes it entirely possible for a weak pokemon to take on a gym.

Bad example but for some reason these guys near my lunch spot decided to stack their gym with 5 big Arcanine's, all 1300cp+, I'm lucky enough to have a decent vaporeon now (1400cp) and could clear the entire place with just that. This was because I was using water against their fire.

I can't be bothered to go searching for the Android download link in this thread. Will somebody be kind enough to share it?

I've cleared out a gym with 550 - 850 cp Pokémon all by myself (it was level 4 or 5 I think), using nothing stronger than 450cp (admittedly I had to use 6 around the 300 - 400 mark).

Types do go a long way if used correctly.

Restaurants in the US who happen to be Pokestops or close enough to play from buy lure models and advertise the fact while enabling it during the week-end. It will bring the masses and people actually do congregate.. Advertise the fact and resturant profits.. at the Zoo the other day 3 stops were close to the zoo resturant where in people enabled lure module.. soon tables filled u with pokemon players buying food while catching pokemon.

Some malls have it good.. e.g. lonehill which has 3 in close proximity.. sadly the pokestop has only one which is close to eat from. We just park at the Capitec sign and can play all 3 pokestops
