Police Chopper shot down in Soweto

moeder go find me a few stories of a police helo being shot down

wonder what shot it down?, im sure an ak 47 would do some major damage to a chopper

The police choppers seem to be a variant of the Alluoette III (looks like it to me).

They scout choppers, so have minimal resistance to attack.

Looks like the policy are better of with Apaches' and Rooivalks

Tells his boss that he crashed into power lines
Boss tells the public relations that the helicopter crashed while cashing criminals
Public relations tells the press that the helicopter was shot at while chasing criminals which resulted in it hitting the powerlines and crashing
Reports send "Helicopter 'shot down' by robbers in South africa to iol"
The Sowetian newpapers steal the story from iol changing it to "robbers shoot down helicopter with RPGs"
UK tabloid picks it up as "Insurgents shoot down law enforcement helicopter with SAMs"
USA publishes the story "Terrorist insurgent's SAMs shoot down military helicopter"

I'm guessing the pilot ***ked himself, tried impulsively to evade, and lost lift at very low altitude.

Probably more a case of pilot training than the aircraft. Police pilots probably aren't trained as well as military ones when it comes to ground-fire.
 
How do we know these tsotsi's havent stolen ground to air missiles from the army? :D

I'm not sure if you were trying to be sarcastic to make a point, but the area this happened, namely Meadowlands, is right where the Hector Pieterson Memorial is, which IS actually one of the country's biggest tourist attractions, and one of the major stops on various guided tours (including other major tourist stops in Soweto, such Nelson Mandela's old house).

It's not the best idea to go wandering about on your own, but is fairly safe on a guided tour, save for the odd bullets and crashing helicopters you might need to dodge.
