Poll sees thumping election victory for ANC

A new poll has predicted the ANC will win another landslide victory in Wednesday's general election, handing Jacob Zuma another presidential term.

Pollsters Ipsos on Friday predicted that the ANC will garner around 63% of the vote.

While comprehensive that would be just short of the two thirds majority needed to change the Constitution and a slight drop from the 65.9% won in 2009.

“There is no doubt about which party will win the election,” Ipsos said, releasing its final poll before the May 7 vote.

“However, this is still the most hotly contested election since 1994.”

Ipsos – which polled 3 730 people in February and March – said that in some provinces the ANC would see its lead eroded.

Ipsos predicted the opposition Democratic Alliance would get 22% of the vote, up nearly six percentage points from the last election and would retain control of the Western Cape.

The party is also seen doing well in Gauteng – which includes Johannesburg and Pretoria – and the Northern Cape getting more than 25% in each. – Sapa-AFP

As I said in the other thread it's looking unlikely that there will be a big drop in support for the ANC next week :(. Based on recent polls from Ipsos it looks like ANC - 63-65%, DA - 22-23% & EFF - 4-5%. It's also looking unlikely that the ANC will lose control of Gauteng & Northern Cape but the DA will grow.
 
There is still hope. Polls are stats. Statistics, Statistics and Damn Lies ;)
 
I don't see the ANC breaking 62% or above without there being violence or fiddling about - which will probably cause violence - and see the question being whether the ANC falls to the 50-55 or 55-60 setup with 60-62 being a national tragedy. If it lands in the 50-55 expect a lot of pressure on Zuma.
 
I would not take those results from the poll too seriously. I do think ANC numbers will decrease, and I am hoping they experience a big drop...their biggest drop since 1994 or something :) I do expect DA to grow, I am expecting quite a nice percentage there...as for EFF, I am expecting them to grow, more than the predicted 5% for some reason...I know they will definitely get a seat or more in parliament, sadly :( Agang....well I think 2% or so they will get.

Agang is stupid imho, they should just join with the DA. Dr. Ramphele is just being hardegat not seeing the bigger picture.

You know, I take Dr. Ramphele with a pinch of salt now. She lost all her credibility, with me, the moment she joined the DA, and then left the DA. I am not pissed at the joining DA part, just the fact she was undecided. I am not sure if this is true, but she also apparently dissed the DA, I can't remember what she said, but she labelled the DA with some word or something...

One thing I really did not like was when DA took in the Xhosa king (not sure what his name is), and former EC premier, Nosimo Balindela (not sure if I spelt her name and surname correct).

Why? The king didn't want anything to do with the ANC anymore. I thought it was a good thing.

Surely if Julius's EFF is willing to embrace the invitation of whites tio their party, then surely the DA can do the same :p...afterall it is a multi-racial party unlike the ANC (well they have a few whites but nothing worth mentioning)

I don't know, I just don't like the king...he really doesn't give a crap about his people...and he is against the whole "LGBTI" last I checked. I was watching the interview between Helen Zille and eNCA, and the news station did ask her about this point...I can't remember her response then.

For Nosimo, well DA did criticize her when she was running Eastern Cape and now they take her in.

I do agree that the party should welcome anyone with open arms.

Unfortunately, the campaigning from all sides and all parties have had lots of "oepsies" along the way; people will be going for the safe vote - ANC.
 
I don't expect things to be much different from the last elections.

Same electorate.
Same politicians.
Same mentality.
Same group-think.
Same policies.
Same rhetoric.
Just a higher pile of the same old crap.

As before, people will vote ANC for reasons that have little or nothing to do with policy or service delivery or corruption or the things that usually affect elections. This is Africa.
