:D - fishy, slimy, off-putting - this is what traditional voters (Aka Desperate Afriforumites now) think of him despite him being 99.9% better than ANC - one can reach only to one conclusion as to why.

Is the water not actually under the domain of national government? I mean the City's water infrastructure is working perfectly, it's the water that's an issue. Or am I wrong?

National Water department is responsible for the BULK supply of water to the towns and cities.

Yeah, excuse my ignorance, I haven't been paying too much attention to the threads regarding this. Is the state of our bulk water not the problem?

Yet the DA is under fire for this? (note: I'm not particularly pro-DA, just asking)

Besides the earlier implementation of water saving measures, what else should they have done that we now blame them for?

Maimane is unfortunately full of platitudes
At the end of the debate both then tackled a question from a Twitter user on whether public disagreements between two DA leaders would confuse voters about the party's general stance.

Maimane said the best thing about the DA was that members could disagree with each other.

"I think it's important as a demonstration of democracy. I can take this party forward regardless of the divisions that some seem to suggest are there."

Yes, given that a lot of the coastal areas appear to be suffering or suffered droughts, DoWS could have undertaken efforts to supplement with desalination 2/3 years ago. I mean Richards Bay has been in drought for a lot longer than CoCT probably only helped by lower population numbers and the South32's initiative to desalinate. The Southern Cape had drought years ago and I think they planned on building a desalination plant too (not sure if it materialised).
 
Well I wont be voting DA any more. Will have to dump the vote on some rubbish like the Green party or someone similar, but I can no longer support the DA.
 
They still have my vote for now but I have two pretty big issues with the DA:

  1. They cant politics their way out of a hessian sack, they do well governing the Cape but as the official opposition they are crap.
  2. They seem to lean toward a nanny state modeled off of British Labour Party, which sucks.

SA could really do with a proper progressive political movement IMO.
