Polo Vivo 1.4 security question

I need some help...

My fiancee wanted a basic runner to take her to and from work, so we settled on a brand new Polo Vivo 1.4 late last year. a very good economical car when it comes to fuel and other features. But I am worried about one aspect of this car... The doors don't lock automatically when pulling off after going some distance, thought this feature would be a given to cars built in modern times... Althought she can lock all the doors centrally with her key, she is a very forgetful person and I need this feature enabled for her so that she does not have to remember manually locking them all the time... I have often observed how she drives around with doors unlocked and it makes me feel uneasy that anyone can easily open her door at a traffic light or at some intersections... And she is usually with our young boy most of the times...

Any help will be appreciated... I'd like to know if VW can add this to the car if we ask them to?
 
Put a sticky note on the steering wheel :) - reminding her to lock the doors.

Will cost you about 10c :P

Perhaps I should have used recent in stead of modern... It's a 2010 model for crying out loud!!! And wasn't this car built in SA where everyone is mindful of the crime situation... I wish I can have this as an add-on
 
have you asked at your VW dealership (or the alarm guys that do their cars) as they can usually program the remote and doors to lock when driving higher than 20km an hour. My 2005 Ford Focus didn't have it in and I just got them to preprogram it so that it would do it.
 
IIRC the auto-lock feature was only available on the higher spec'ed Polos, so it's unlikely to be available on a Vivo. i think you'd have to have an aftermarket system installed.

Did Ford reprogram it for you? Or 3rd party alarm guys?
 
Driving the company car which is a Vivo 1.6 Baseline and it has this feature. Don't know why the 1.4 should not have it.
 
Not even my 2007 1.4 Polo has that feature.

I would go to the dealership and ask them there, probably your best bet.

LOL... Just had to google what IIRC stands for :) Will seek an after-market option, while I was in Cape Town on business later last year... my company hired a polo vivo for me, and I am sure it locked automatically... even the car key was different from the one that we have... it was a folding key and we got the normal crappy one...

You obviously bought the Trendline model though? Trendlines have very few features.. some seats, wheels, body and steering wheel. That's it!
 
The reason why I am asking this question is that my brother who is driving a 2006 Opel Astra didn't know that he could activate/deactivate this option himself by pressing and holding the central lock button for several seconds... he only found out last year when he took the car to GM to try and have it added as an extra...

Clearly. But the car is a good runner... But I still need this installed. Will chat to the guys at VW ....
 
True - on most new cars you can enable or disable autolocking.

What you should remember is that the Vivo is an old Polo, so you cannot compare it to modern cars. Also, it is a VW, so the only stand feature it comes with is a long list of optional extras :p

Our cars don't lock automatically, as the damned USA has banned it, so they have removed the option...anyway, you can get it fitted by any alarm guy...works like a charm.
 
Slightly off topic, but speaking of regional features on cars, it seems only German cars will wind down the windows if you press and hold the unlock button?
