Pool cost woes and Ozone Generators

As some of you might have read somewhere on these boards, I've lamented that I cannot find an itsy bitsy swimming pool for under R40,000 from any pool company. Ok, sure I can get a fibreglass kit pool for R31,000 but that's without a hole in the ground or any plumbing so the final cost will edge towards the R40,000 mark. Maybe it's a Cape Town Price fixing racket, who knows. Anyway the long and short of it is that I've finally found a builder who can build a 4x3 swimming pool for R30,000 complete and this with a sprayed fiberglass coating.
Not cheap by any stretch of imagination but with Summer around the corner I'm not waiting another 3 years without a pool, sweating like a pig in the afternoon.
Ozone Generators seem like the healthiest solution (as opposed to Salt water or chlorine pools) but the info is scarce. How does this set up work. Must one have a normal chlorine pool first and just add the ozone generator or can one have a salt water pool and just add the ozone generator? When does one cut back on chemicals? It would appear that HTH and the Pool companies ( who depend on the sale of chemicals) feel very threatened by the advent of Ozone technology and one can't get any information from pool shops or swimming pool companies.
Anyone have the buzz?

I also looked at pools i also wanted a small one.
But hell the price!!
Like you said they all conspire and price fix the damm things. It’s locally made so ii do not get why it’s so expensive, especially after i saw how they make these small pools.

Well basically if you have the time and the energy, you can build your own swimming pool. All the material and equipment you need you can get at your local builders warehouse, thus making it a lot more configurable.

Just remember to follow a basic shape like a rectangle/square/circle so that there is a continous uninterrupted flow of water (and keep the funny corners to a bare minimum, else it will be endless kreepy woes).

But yes, if you have the stamina, and know a buddy that is handle with a shovel and an axe you could save a bundle

Why not look at a collapsible pool?

Because the pump they come with is not even powerful enough to circulate the water, (it's like a cheap hairdryer) despite the pretty pictures, and you spend 90% of your time cleaning the thing every time the wind blows and the plastic discolors when you add chlorine and because they Suck. Been there, done that.

We don't want to have a pool because of my wife's nursery school - accidents do happen so quick... so we'll just grin and bear the heat...

I know someone with a round pool. The reason being, he doesn't have a creepy. There is a hole in the centre, and the jets turns the water, causing everything to go towards the centre, where it is sucked in. Works like a charm, and no creepy to fix or move around.

Yip a buddy of mine build himself one, a long rectangular one (he loves doing laps), and it looks pretty decent and works like a charm, me on the other hand, I am lazy, so I prefer to rent a house that already has a pool, then I only have to fight with my pool cleaner, but am thinking of putting in a salt chlorinator (spelling??)

My Step father DIY'd his own swimming pool. A round bowl shaped thing complete with pumps and water feature and easy to maintain.

Then again he also DIY'd an entire house with upper floor save for the thatching and manpower for the heavy bits and help with painting etc... he even cut his own doors, railings, built the staircase etc etc..

He doesn't have any pro qualification for any of this shyte and just picked it up out of books and research.

Seriously mad bugger he is lol makes me feel lazy :/ and what is more is that they are not necessarily rich by any means...I mean they live only marginally comfortably so where he got the finances to buy the shyte he needed I have no idea.

Um, i'm not pooky believe me, i just enjoy the feeling of the salt water, i'd rather swallow a few mouthfuls of salt than swollow a bit of chlorine water...
