Poor local attendances

I was there today until the rain came down and I was so happy. I have been to many live games, why is watching it on a 50 inch telly so much better? Because it is! I love the game but nothing beats HD!

You actually get people like this? :wtf:

For me its usually been about advertising of the matches, and timing.

The price of the tickets is usually more than reasonable, but I have no idea when a local cricket match will be played unless I drive passed the grounds and its on the board.

I think it's due to no coverage of domestic cricket on sabc and etv combined with poor marketing.

I used to attend live games at the Wanderers quite a lot during the 90's and mid 00's and it was fun, but then it got to a point where at just about every match there were some drunken hooligans that made a nuisance of themselves, picked fights and generally made things unpleasant, also I enjoy a good few beers whilst watching a game and the way roadblocks started increasing it was also a detrimental factor as I can sit at home and watch on TV and have as many beers as I like and not have to worry about driving afterwards.

So I blame alcohol :p :D

5. The fact that it's Cricket

Granted I'm in a fortunate position that I don't have to buy tickets, for pretty much anything, but I'd pay to watch T20s. Test cricket on the other hand…

I also blame alcohol to an extent.
it's expensive for 1 and I hate driving when I've been drinking.
My son also loves eating all the crap they sell.

It ends up costing me a fortune.
And that's local games.
International games I can't even think of going to because they are too expensive and then I still need to drink and eat.

I could be way of the mark here, but I was under the impression that in Australia the games arent' broadcast live in the host cities.

So if it's a test in Melborne, people in Melbourne can't watch on the television. Not sure if this is true though.

They did try that out... but discontinued it as it had no impact on crowd attendance.

The T20 stuff I can *almost* understand. Those 3/5 day tests ... those folks need their heads examined. Even if watching it on TV.

On a serious note though I can't believe that in the year 2014 the SABC don't have any dedicated sports channels. Even if it's just to broadcast school or varsity events when there's not much else happening with the national teams.

The SABC is all about money, they invest nothing into development.
Spending money to air derby days and such is just not worth it for them.
I believe it invaluable but they certainly don't.

Surely with just a little effort they could get tv sponsorships for something like school rugby which is huge imo. The knock-on effect would be priceless for the development and exposure for youngsters and the institutions involved.

But yeah I suppose censored news and isidingo re-runs are more relevant to society.

The TV blame game is a toss-up between Supersport, SABC and the sporting codes, with MONEY being the root of the evil!
