Poor MWEB speeds, controlling users throughput equals capping? ASA

When you are defined to have used to much by MWEB, you are restricted. This is not an uncapped account.

You cannot call a "shaped uncapped" account uncapped because you control total throughput per user.

This is infact a shaped capped account.

can we please see some test results over a few months to proof your theory.

i've personally done from 50 up too 300+ gig a month and have not experience this idea of yours.

however if you feel so strongly and you think you have a valid case why not put your money on where you month is and open a case with the ISPA and ASA. just don't except us to hold our breath for this to happen... i would think this is a case of 1 post and there i go...

:edit
you do realise that all ip's are logged on this forum; i would wonder who's faceless clone you are ;)

Prophet, I sincerely hope MWeb pays you for jumping to their rescue at every opportunity. It would be most sad if you did it for free, gratis and for nothing.

I concur with Prophet, I'd like to see some proof. I mean Mweb seems to be targeted because they're the cheapest. I'd like to see other results of uncapped offerings.

Prophet, I'd like to see proof of your 300 gigs.

[ahem]Local doesn't count. [ahem]

there is loads of people pulling 300gb easy, i only had 4mb from 17 jan and be pulling loads from then.

I have done some heavy downloading. Not 300GB, but 160GB so far, and speeds are still good. This is mostly p2p traffic, which I think is not bad for a shaped account.

2.4TB since may last year May. At even R1/GB that works out to more than R2400 a month. I'm spending less half of that. Well worth it IMO.

This BS discussion again... hey OP please do some reading on shaping and how it works and you will realize they have no need to limit your line speed.

Prophet, I'd like to see proof of your 300 gigs.

Local doesn't count.

it goes both ways can i now except your monthly read out to support your sock-smocking theory ?

Why do you have to be so rude and condescending?

I said local doesn't count... you can't prove those figures aren't local or that you just wrote them in.

Dude wtf do you mean local doesn't count? I don't think he's being rude you're just not making sense. The guy showed you his throughput and now you say this? What more do you want?

Local doesn't count is what I'm saying. Traffic on the national backbone is far different from traffic going internationally which actually costs something to MWEB.

I'd like to add that we all witnessed speed shoot up over December then fall back down as ppl went back to work.

Well Mweb doesn't split traffic that way in their reports, there probably isnt even 300GB worth of locally hosted stuff worth having, and most importantly, if I with my puny 384K line use 60-80 GB a month then it's nothing for someone with over 10x the speed to do 300GB. I mean come on..

They control traffic based on various things such as domains and ip's and usage per customer on said domains or new servers, I think you wildy misunderestimate QOS capabilities.

You've shown that you don't understand news server technology, TJ99:
"there probably isnt even 300GB worth of locally hosted stuff"

The content is cached locally on the news servers hosted by IS, MWEB, and SAIX, ie locally. hence the movies and tv series that these guys are downloading, the same guys that are boasted 300 gigs, come from local source.

Various things yes. Usage per customer, no. Do you think everyone is lying to you, its some big conspiracy?

And no, I dont care about news servers, when the 1970's called, I gave them back their crap technology.

You clearly lack understanding, sorry but I'm not going to reply to a user that has your (lack of) understanding of network technology.

Erm... the only local content source I use is probably this one and possibly my bank's.

EDIT: Oh wait, I forgot about IOL & News24... those bandwidth hogs.
