Nice picture with proper description.
Orange colour on the top looks like lite brown on my monitor. Definitely different to the orange colour on the bottom. It can be confusing.

The only difference between the two is that 586A is suitable for USOC telephone systems that use 4 wires. I doubt anyone would come across an environment with this requirement. Besides, again, the equipment doesn't demand it, only one very narrow international standard does - there's no technical difference between the two - it's all visual (insulation colour). One is not superior over the other.
