Poor weather disrupts Telkom services

Every damn time they are caught with their pants down, can no-one in Telskum do any forward planning (other than how much money they make).

Summer + lightning = things go bang
rain + water = old crap infrastructure gets damaged
1 + 1 = 2

You People Think U Got It Bad!

My connection is 192k (still)
and my latency is 80+
get lost packets and its slow!
download i get full 21kbs
Yet they tell me its fine..........
SOMEONE PLEASE GET SOMEONE TO DO A REPORT ON CENTRAL SOUTH AFRICAN DSL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job, blame the weather for decaying unmaintained infrastructure.

Oddly enough my adsl didnt go down today. Wish I could have said the same about the power.

Ahhh... so this is why my speed has gone no higher than 15kb/sec :(

I live in Pietermaritzburg (anyone else having this problem here?)

Might also explain the 2-3 CRC errors I receive on my downstream every second

The bottom line is that we are paying for a service we aren't receiving. Do you think Telkom would only charge a portion of the monthly subscription reflective of how much "up time" you had during the month? I dont think so!

Could it also be that because so much of the work is out-sourced, the contractors don't give a rats ass if the networks are down, it's most likely not in their contracts to do after-hours work. This leaves only the few permanent Telkom technicians to run around getting all the networks up again.

I see the pattern ...

So when it comes to giving feedback / answers to questions by consumers or regulators / doing maintenance and upgrades Telkom is tight-lipped.

When it comes to not doing anything except looking for excuses or allocating blame elsewhere then Telkom is fully prepared to make press announcements.

Really pathetic governance / business practice Telkom. How about some feedback on the progress regarding your 4 pillars, Papi? I'm sure after a year you can let the public know how well or poorly your company is doing with regard to your own strategy ..?
