Porn domain delay

Telkom will just ban access to .xxx addresses and SAIX will have 50% less traffic :D
 
It will never happen while Bush is in office.
 
Would be cool if porn sites were restricted to xxx domain. would make spam filtering so much easier.

Im hoping that the xxx domain is just the start of this process and that sometime in the future all adult sites will be forced by law(s) to reside on that TLD

A huge problem with that scenario tho is that they would have to give the big guys first dibs on the names. like sex.com would become sex.xxx

How they would manage that is the question....

I agree 100%, after that we can force all the white guys' sites to reside on
.white and all the black guys' sites to reside on .black and all the asian sites.....
and we're going to have ourselves a very neat little cyber world

I would have to agree, having specific domains for specific content types would be great for those places or people that need to filter certain types of content out.

I am not a fan of censorship, however there are places where it is appropriate.

I am not sure what Antonio is going on about, perhaps he feels that forcing porn content onto a .xxx domain is discrimination somehow. Considering the extreme lack of regard these sites show for my personal rights with graphic SPAM and other uninvited advertising I am very much pro anything that grants me additional control over what I get or don't get to see.

You sound like someone who would hate to be fully aware that he is visiting a porn site... you know... It just popped up on the screen type...

C'mon - call a spade a spade... if you like to watch other people playing with each other or getting naked, then at least respect those who don't want their kids and themselves bombarded with the stuff - or at least want to be able to easily filter the crud...

I dont really think it could be called censorship, Pookfuzz. I like to think of it in terms of a library: everything well ordered and placed for make it easy to find (or not to find)

The Dewy(?) System of the Internet!
 
my problem is this...
if you start categorising the system that isnt categorised and wasnt meant to be categorised then you create "opportunities" that didnt exist.

vis: 1mb, unshaped, 3gb cap + access to .xxx for only R5k a month.

give it enough time, and they will have basic internet access with .co.za thrown in, and you will pay to access .com, .co.uk, .org etc.

the way it is now almost prevents that perverse marketing scheme from happening. the net was designed by techies, and that is what we have now. If you let the suits redesign it, everything will cost $$$ more.
 
Valid point but I dont think in reality it would happen. Even the Techies that designed the net had catagories in mind just by having com net org etc. It was never well enforced which is why we have com sites that arent commerce related and org sites that are sex related (www.xxx.org for example)
 
I know, but the .com and .co.za etc were for countries.
I believe .org and .net were the only special cases.
.com=commerce, .co.za=commerce, south africa....it never mattered what your product was.

It didnt matter what your content was, if you were from s.a. you used .co.za (loosely enforced)

but now, you will have an s.a. pron site, so the actual content gets categorised, if it works, then some twit will go "hey, that worked so well, lets do it for the others" YOU JUST KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN.
 
Dont think com was ever intended as a country TLD. I still would like pron sites to be on their own TLD. Funny enough I think that most of the 'professional' guys would probably like that to happen as well.

And I thought that the people reading this board have more than 3 brain cells:

1. Forcing pr0n sites to the .xxx is nothing but an atempt of censorship.

2. Adult sites on .xxx will stop spammers from flooding our kids' emails with adult images - FALSE!!!!

Spammers don't care whose email they send to, that's why they'll continue mass mailing no matter what. Spammers buy, use, and discard domain names in a matter of days. They'll continue building adult sites on .coms, because the .xxx will be much easier to filter.

3. Forcing adult sites to the .xxx tld will protect our children from accidentally accessing adult sites - FALSE!!!

You get porn pedlers that abide by the rules, but you'll get thousands and thousands and thousands that'll do anything for a buck, meaning that if it is more profitable to have an adult site on a .com instead of .xxx (since many ISPs etc will filter the .xxxs) many people will continue building their sites on .coms (by hosting overseas etc).

Well, I don't donwload pr0n 24/7 but I reserve the right to do so whenever I feel like it, and since about 90% of men watch pr0n online I consider myself 100% perfectly normal.

And follwoing the 'pro .xxx' people's logic, consider this:

a) nobody has ever died from overdose of pr0n

b) millions of people have been killed in the name of God, Allah etc, therefore I demand all the churches. mosks, and sinagoges be moved to Pretoria West, so I can easily avoid them.

Sounds stupid, doesn't it? Well, actually I'm perfectly fine with having churches in my suburb, beacuse I can live with people having different views and believes, can you?
