Porsche 718 roadster

Thank god, even the US stupidity has limits.

Sport cars with a diesel engine. :erm:

BTW the TDI is VW thing. And those engines still have reliability issues.

I suppose youve never owned a ford ranger. Damm reliable and so torquey. Imagine one of those 3.2 v6 turbodiesel ford ranger motors in a mustang shell.

boxer does rule. I would pick the petrol turbo charged impreza engine over the diesel subaru engine any day.

When the Le Mans car comes to the show room. I will chnage my mine.

For ever Turbo diesel engine you mentioned the Petrol turbo charged is faster.

But is it more torquey?

I've had biker that were "faster" before as well, but the torque is what makes them better to ride so often a "slower" bike is better for daily usage.

There is a difference between a fast car and a sports car.

I am not implying that diesel engines cannot make power. They do. 330D. Fuel consumption should not be a big consideration when choosing a sports car.

But in a sports CAR. Most enthusiasts would want a petrol engine.

Diesel engine rpm is limited by the compression ignition.

Petrol engines

-sound nicer
-rev higher
-turbo petrol engines make loads of torque.
-The longer rev band gives you better gearing and allows you to hold the gear longer.
-petrol engines compared to diesel engines are lighter. Better weight distribution.
-petrol engines have been used in more sports CARS than diesel.

Diesel engine in fast cars
-cost more to buy
-cost more to maintain.
-diesel costs more per litre. And the fast diesel cars drink it way more than a truck
-there is a huge difference between a N/A truck diesel and the units powering a fast car.

Torque is nice if you are pulling a load at low revs. My petrol turbo WRX has a flat torque curve from 2600 rpm till 7600 rpm.

Most hot diesels (SEAT) that I have raced lose, because of the need to change gears at 4500. My car is at it power peak at 4500rpm and pulling for another 3000 rpm.
