Porsche Taycan completes a 1,111 km range challenge

Porsche did a fun range challenge involving its Porsche Taycan in Sport Sedan, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo variants in either 4S, Turbo or Turbo S configurations. The challenge was 1,111 km-long and started from Koblach, Austria, through Ingolstadt, Germany, before circling back to the starting point.

Participants had to use only four Porsche charging points and were split into groups of two. After all, driving more than 1,000 km in a day is a challenge in any kind of vehicle.

The point was to implement different charging strategies while still aiming to reach the finish in the shortest time possible.

A Porsche Taycan GTS has set a new Guinness World Record for drifting on ice

Electric Porsche deploys 46 minutes of ‘controlled oversteer’. Good day out

Porsche has set another new Guinness World Record. Professional Helmsmith Jens Richter spent 46 minutes looking out of the side windows of a Taycan GTS to complete the ‘longest ever continuous drift on ice by an EV’, chalking up the Taycan’s fourth GWR.

Richter managed to keep it pinned for a whopping 17.503km – that’s 10.87 miles! – beating the previous Very Sideways On Ice Record of 14.8km (by a Merc) and 7.351km (by a Skoda).

So yee, and very much haw. Can imagine that was a fun day out for all… or perhaps not. “Under the extreme continuous load of the drifting Taycan, the ice track deteriorated faster than expected,” said Richter.

Yeesh. Like that bit in a film where the ground metaphorically falls away beneath you, except this literally started to fall away beneath them. “We therefore had to abort the first attempt after around 11km,” added Richter.

Wherever the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT goes, the EV records seem to... flow. This time Porsche aimed the not-a-real-Turbo's considerable electrons at Brazil’s Interlagos circuit and managed a 1m 42.1s lap - making it the fastest EV around the track and almost eight seconds faster than the Taycan Turbo S in just 2.6 miles of tarmac. What on earth are in those electrons?

Describing his record-breaking lap, three-time IMSA champion Felipe Nasr said: “On the uphill climb before Curva do Café, just before the main straight, I used Attack Mode and the car reached 169mph by the end of the corner. On the exit of Curva do Sol, I was already reaching more than 124mph coming onto the back straight. It's amazing how brutally the car accelerates and delivers its power.”

Brutally it must, considering this is the fourth such electric car record set by the GT. The first came early last year when it smashed the Tesla Model S Plaid’s Nürburgring attempt by *eighteen* seconds. It was then ushered off to Laguna Seca and the Shanghai International Circuit to… enjoy the weather, probably. And then get around both tracks really rather quite fast when it had a moment to spare.

Such pace is made possible by the dual-motor setup, which peaks at 1,020bhp and 915lb ft when the ‘Overboost’ mode is active. With the Weissach aero package equipped, this thing gets from 0-62mph in just 2.1s and will keep going right up to 190mph. Brutal indeed.
