Port Mapping on XP

You'll need to combine software, e.g. DynSite with a DDNS site such as no-ip or dyndns.

I've got a DynDNS account and can see a 3G data card on the unrestricted APN, so, from the internet, I can access the XP box with the 3G data card installed. Classic inbound conection.

Now I need to access a server behind this system, on the local LAN. This can't just be normal routing as the LAN IP is non-routable, so I need to map a port from the routable side (internet) to the non-routable side (LAN).

I therefore need to configure XP to do this.
 
Not the best solution but you could always put the XP box in the DMZ if its connecting to the net via a router?
 
@vodacom3g - are you using internet connection sharing to share the connection or a router? If it's ICS then perhaps this will help - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241570 - otherwise what method are you using?

Aha, ok well then the first thing to ask is do you have a hardware or software router on your LAN and at the point where it breaks out onto the net?

If not, then you should consider using IPCop to do your port forwarding for you, well any Linux box with a couple of NICs will do the trick, but I recommend downloading & trying IPCop as it is a dedicated firewall distro as well as a router that can do your Dynamic DNS for you as well as your port forwarding from :80 to :8080 on your LAN...
 
No, no external router. That's actually the point. I need to use the XP box that's got the data card and LAN port as the router. I don't want to install another box.

On Linux I would use iptables to do this.

<edit> Found some port-mapping settings under windows firewall. Will try them. </edit>

Ok, what you can do in heXPee, is use "route add ...", unfortunately I don't have heXPee nearby to give the exact command, but basically you can manually add a routing table entry to do the forwarding, not sure if that will work with port numbers though...:confused:

<edit>Didn't notice your edit, but yes that will also work :).</edit>
