Got 140W panel for my Bluetti EB3A.. Works very nice. But yeah have to move the panel every hour and yes... #BewareShading.. IMG-20230415-WA0007.jpeg

Saw 110W at one time (better angle and alignment).

#FreePower (once you have the PPS and Panel and cables) :P

I bought the older version of the Ecoflow late last year. I was impressed with their customer service as they used WhatsApp and kept me updated.

Might get better results if you can devise some kind of stand that can keep the panel off the ground. The paving will throw off a lot of heat reducing the panel's efficiency.
 
Hi there,

I'm interested in the ECOFlow River 2 Max as a failover for my Homelab and to cater for 4hr Load Shedding.
Currently my Homelab draws, at most, 90Watts.

I understand that the ECOFlow, is an EPS and not a UPS so immediate failover is not possible.
My Home lab is currently setup as follows:
1) APC UPS with a RPi, Intel NUC, a SFF PC, Philips Hue Hub, Ring Alarm. (The RPi is running NUT which gracefully shuts down the equipment when power drops after a specififed threshold)
2) Ratel 8100 connected to my Router and ONT which keeps power on for just over 2hrs 30 mins

Would it be possible to connect the ECOflow to the APC UPS and the Ratel 8100?
The theory is then that when the power drops, the ECOFlow switches over, but since it can't do so in a timeous fashion the UPS keeps power to the systems until the ECOFlow takes over automatically
When power is restored the ECOFlow switches to AC and starts charging with no power loss to the Homelab

I'd like to keep the ECOFlow plugged in at all times aswell

Do you see any issues with this approach?

Yes, that's doable and I had my River Pro set up like that for a half a year. Whether it's recommended by the manufacturer is another thing, I think they're telling people in SA to not use it as a permanent EPS - I never had any issue though but ymmv.

Or you could maybe use something like this to manually switch over, or even automatically?

So you don't have your Ecoflow running things constantly.

800+ cycles are not bad. Depending on your usage, it may just last 5years +
Yeah it's not bad. And I have 2 that are rated for 800 cycles to 80% capacity but if I buy another, it will have LFP instead of NMC.

Not just for the cycles, its also safer.

Not in SA, well not with our current LS :p

5 x 365 = 1825 days

So even if you only charge it every second day she is not gonna last long.

And like @Park@82 said cycles is not the only reason to stick to LFP:

I would only need it between 6pm and 11pm if there are LS slots during that time.
That happens here maybe every 2 to 3 days. Mostly the slots are early morning or during the day when I'm at work or sleeping. Also took into account when I don't need it at all on certain days when I'm at the pub :p

Interesting point - how is it calculated on full cycles or every charge? or basically only if it gets to 80% per cycle?

As far as I understand it, a cycle is not based on a charge.

For example if you use your laptop to 50%, then charge it up, and do that again, that is one Battery Cycle Count - or 4 times to 75% (which is a usage of 25% battery each time) - the usages don’t have to be equal, could be varying charge levels, like drain to 40%, another to 90% then a third usage to 70% would be one cycle.
