it is available cheaper. I suspect the battery is not LifePo4, so only about 900 cycles
 
The Ecoflow units have a UPS function, but it is not advised to keep it on this permanently...
Is this also true for the UGreen powerroam units; has anybody checked the manuals?

The Ugreen manual doesn't say anything about the UPS feature. So I guess there is no issue.

The only problem with UPS in SA is blackouts and spiking or too low current. So you would definitely want a quality surge protector plug.

It even comes with a guarantee of up to R20 000 if you appliance gets fried.

If it doesn't mention UPS then it would be an issue surely?

Does it mention "transfer time/switchover" anywhere?

The issue with the Ecoflow is a slow 30ms transfer time, and the older models did not have a LFP battery (lithium ion polymer).
Takealot shows the Ugreen has a UPS with 20ms transfer.

The UPS feature is just built in, I guess they felt no need to comment on it in the manual. The manual was quite slim though, could've been a bit more comprehensive IMO.

The stated switchover time is 20ms, but tests done found it performed the best of a bunch of PPSs tested at 9.8ms. Though that could be specific to that machine. 20ms is enough though from what I have seen.

You can contact Ugreen directly and ask them. I have had good feedback from them. You will need to state the model and possibly the country location of the product you are inquiring about.

Portable units are also for people that dont own the property. Some of us can not do a fixed installation.

Ecoflow does not advice against keeping it on permanently. The new Lifepo4 units come with a 5 year warranty so you'll have peace of mind for 5 years at least.

Are there any (or do you have) general recommendations as to what brands or specific models of 5kw inverters and 5kwh batteries to go for in a setup like this? Like something that can be hooked up together in a temporary trolley setup and permanently installed at a later stage.
It's very logical (at least to me) to do it in steps like this if one can't afford a permanent install right off the bat. The portable power stations with UPS features are just convenient due to being all in one, compact, not very noisy, easy to hookup to loads, etc. You're dead right about it not being a great value proposition for people who don't require the portability though.

some of the trolley setups that geewiz and others sell is wall mount units just mounted on a box
and some trolley all in one units are exactly that axpert guts inside a case with a battery presenting as a single unit

literally nothing stops you from doing a wall mount unit as a trolley setup

just disable the bypass function in the menu of any 3kw or less unit
the 5kw unit you would have to pay attention not to exceed the plug if using a plug as input, ie limit load+charging to max 3500w
