Want to move from MTN to the R99 unlimited sms offer, dont. think you can get a better deal than that right now, sms wise, I dont need the phone so I'll just sell it. I've seen the heated hate debate about Virgin here, but i've also heard they're good. What's the real deal here ? Any current Virgin customers here who're happy or disgruntled with Virgin ? I'm going to miss my 3G though, but somehow its down quiet a bit lately so yeah . .

unlimited sms you say?

i wonder if it's possible to code an app that beaks a file down into little sms'es, and sends them one after the other.

2 people with 2 of these sims would mean they can send files for free

lol keeper - its programming. im sure anything is possible.

I am a happy virgin customer. I have their free sms option, used to have a problem in my area at one stage but they sorted it out...if their internet offline, i just roam on vodacoms network. Solves the problem with coverage as well.

Only problem i have, but not sure if it is network related is that when im on the internet, vm reads that my phone is off and phone calls and smses dont go through to me untill i go offline and call a number like voicemail.

Another thing - which is not a big thing for me is any airtime you have left at the end of the month, you will only receive back again halfway through the month.

But other than that, i enjoy them.

course its possible - but imagine you send a 10GB file, and one of the 1000's of SMS's isn't delivered :P

Personally - I wouldn't move.

I'm on prepaid and for data, don't bother with Virgin. If I walk into another room whilst using the net, it drops the connection. And the speed ... remember dial up? lol ... I think the other services are ok though but if you like to have data available to you, go for another network.

my brother just ported to virgin prepaid from cell c and he says it is muck and the worst mistake he's made, and he doesn't use data at all

It still surprises me how many problems I had with Cell-C, then moved over to Virgin and have absolutely none. Even though they use the same network?

i dunno, i generally find that both cell c and virgin are rubish on the network side.

i went to virgin solely for price. and also because you get 2 networks to call on which is nice if youre in the sticks.

as for the data, well its slow. But then again my vodacom 3G modem has not had a stable 3G signal for the last 6 months so I guess at least Virgin dont promise something you dont get.

It seems there are definitely two sides to this coin.

One question I have, is that the R99.00 is it ONLY R99.00 or are there random other charges like CLI etc. etc.

Seems like it includes every thing which includes CLI. I like Virgin Mobile, only thing I think they should have considered was to ride on someone with 3G (MTN/Vodacom) instead of only GPRS/EDGE (Cell C).

The free sms's are great had it for almost a year now and things have IMPROVED. Data is 100% reliable for me now(speeds aren't the best but you dont buy unlimited sms contract to download), whereas before if it worked it was a good day haha. As for the incoming and outgoing calls, had complaints before of ppl not be able to threw, haven't had a complaint in months and finally the sms's, sent 1713 in november and paid my R149 monthly sub:D. I think virgin is worth it.

I don't have any problems with service and the free sms's are a treat. VM seem to have scr.wed up my VM Rewards lately and I keep getting sim cards going faultly which is a pain and about R100 a time to replace but overall its good.

I became a contract customer of VM thinking that their fresh approach would shake up the industry in the lekker ou country. I've been with them for 16 months and I can truly admit that the first 10 months were pleasant.
During the last 6 months, I finally couldn't take the dropped calls, irregular billing, & the holding for longer than with Telkom to speak to a technical consultant. Heck, it took me 47minutes of holding (58min total call) before getting through to their call center to tell them I'm buggering off.

I'm now back with MTN on Anytime 200 for R108 a month (got a shytty "free" phone but I already flogged that one for R1300). I'm sorry I left them initially since all I got from VM in the pure frustration.

Not spammer, just sms alot haha 7 part sms's are normal now :D.

Virgin summed up in a few lines: Cons: Crap customer care (Don't bother phoning them) dodgy connection.
Pros: cheap data
Virgin is a huge dispointment if youv read richard bransons biography, apperntly he just sold the rights to use the VM brand here in SA otherwize its some crappy 2bit company partnered with cellc
