Porting to Virgin Soon. Is it worthwhile?

Virgin summed up in a few lines: Cons: Crap customer care (Don't bother phoning them) dodgy connection.
Pros: cheap data
Virgin is a huge dispointment if youv read richard bransons biography, apperntly he just sold the rights to use the VM brand here in SA otherwize its some crappy 2bit company partnered with cellc

Agree with the customer care issue, useless as human piss.

I was with virgin since they started untill i just couldnt take it anymore, 6 months ago i went back to Vodacom. If its free sms you after then ok go for it, just dont expect anything to work properly and keep an eye on your airtime. Then again if you use a lot of data and calls go with Vodacom. Personaly i wouldnt touch virgin with a 10 foot pole even if my life depended on it.

No problems with Virgin here. I'd bypass the help desk and go straight to management. If you need an email address for someone useful at Virgin give me a PM or use hellopeter

I was able to successfully roam abroad and had no problems with calls or voice mail, my phone went straight onto one of the local networks. I was even able to check my credit.

Absolutely not!

Ever since i moved, getting SICK LOTS SMS spam, *** coverage and ridiculous service. id much rather pay a little more and deal with Vodacom/MTN.

Firstly, the 'unlimited SMSs' arent unlimited - they cut you off if you use it too much. My wife had pay as you go and they kept cutting her off, even though she hardly SMSed and she wasn't even on the Unlimited SMS plan - she was paying for all her SMSs. Their systems are hopelessly confused, and their support is non-existent.

Virgin are absolutely shocking. I have just ported away from them. Go to hellopeter.com and search for Virgin Mobile and you'll see how hopeless they are

i don't ask for much from my cell phone provider ... all i want is reasonable coverage and signal strength around non rural areas and when i do call customer care to be helped within a reasonable amount of time.

unfortunately virginmobile has failed to do either... i ported to them about 1.5 years ago because i felt that i needed to support the smaller network provider in order to pressurise service and price levels from the bigger players in the market.

to cut a long story short... i ended up doing my self a major disfavour... their network cover is absolutely pathetic, i get one and sometimes no bars of signal when i'm at home and work... calls go thru to voicemail when my phone is on due to the poor signal!

their call centre agents take forever and a day to answer your calls...

i'd strongly advise you to not port to virgin.... yes the others call centres are lousy too but atleast you'll be able to wait on hold for 20 minutes plus whilst enjoying decent signal strength

I wouldn't advise anyone to move to Virgin. Their customer care sucks and during the last 6 months or so with being with them I stopped receiving a bill. Then after I asked them to cancel my subscription, nothing happened and I had to request them to do it again. I still don't know what's going on.. Haven't received any feedback from them about anything. Absolutely useless. If you want to get upset quickly, phone their customer care line.
