Positive SEACOM feedback welcomed

BRIAN HERLIHY: Our pricing strategy removes the high-price, low-volume structure that you have been sitting on today. It really moves into a broadband-on-demand structure, whereby we are looking at low prices, high volume at a 90% discount to what you are paying today. So, we are really...

MONEYWEB: Sorry, let's slow down a little - 90% discount? So, for every R1 that I am paying today for broadband or Internet access, you are going to be offering it for 10c?

BRIAN HERLIHY: That's correct.

So then it's still coming. The future looks gooood. Can't wait. :)

Well to be honest, it is not Seacom's fault that prices have not yet come down.

... yeah its you-know-who

Great things are coming in October :)

Forgive me ... I don't want to be negative but in this beloved country of ours, seeing is believing. :erm:

Nice post and welcome.
Neotel are in a very good position to start an all out price war,yet they fumble in the dark...

Sorry, I really don't see it being Neotel's fault. If the last mile is owned by Telkom ... ... sorry ... you-know-who! then its going to cost Neotel huge to get their product to me.

Also, I think many ISP's might be locked into ungodly contracts with you-know-who making it difficult for them to take up other options.

I say, give it time and it'll come right. :)

Yeah I heard the same with Telkom making changes in Oct - not sure what are the changes - news

You people are sad.

Seriously...

Yes I am one of those from a posting in the IS testing Seacom.

Just wait and see what happens and NEVER get your hopes up, they are always dashed so whatever is happening in Oct - whatever who cares - we are so used to waiting.
Maybe the next thread in this myBB forum will be exciting news, let me rather check this section every 2 weeks for any updates

Posted this in another thread, but it needs to be said here.

While SEACOM has a design capacity of 1.28 Tbps, only 80 Gbps of bandwidth is currently available on the cable. To put this in perspective, Telkom recently announced that the SAT3-SAFE capacity will be upgraded from its current 120 Gbps to 340 Gbps. The SAT-3/SAFE cable system therefore has a significantly higher capacity than SEACOM.

I would love to know how 340 Gbps is "a significantly higher capacity" than 1.28 Tbps... :)

It will take time, and a few things are indeed happening behind the scenes. The cable has already had an impact and it will continue to shake things up - just not as fast as some people expected.

true it's always soon, before the end of the year etc etc etc

What confuses me here is:
...consumers should see innovative new ADSL offerings entering the market before the end of the year.
Basically I see it as 'sometimes international bandwidth is blamed, sometimes local bandwidth...'

Make up your minds please. :p
