Positive SEACOM feedback welcomed

Seacom was the biggest non-event of the year.

Nothing will change in the industry until ISP's charge consumers for bandwidth speed rather than bandwidth volume. ISP's don't buy their bandwidth by volume, so why should we, the consumers, pay for it by volume?
 
haha.. relax guys! I am still counting on nice Christmas prezzies in October from a certain local telecomms company... and nice price drops from the other suppliers before the end of the year.

At least you know if I am wrong and totally way off base.. there are still going to be another two cables here by mid 2010! There is nothing now to halt the progress of the price drop or package increases! It is inevitable!

Neotel

I would think that by now atleast Neotel would have showed some kind of initiative in regards to offering better service. The last I heard was Seacom has been installed in their Midrand office? please correct me if im wrong?

What is stopping Neotel from atleast giving some better deals, higher speeds etc etc etc.

They arent in a position like normal ISPs that still need to negotiate and wait for instalation in the future, they have it NOW.
I would say all eyes on Neotel as they are already free to clear the table of bad press, bad service and countless complaints on this forum and others.

Neotel step up and show the people why the once optimistic public had reason to believe in you, be the 1st to step into the future of what we all dream will be the new South African Standard of telecommunication and broadband offerings. Seeing as Tata is your partner and you do have access to the network already. whats the holdup?
Could it be that the truth is really starting to show that you are just like Telkom, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C etc. just interested in max profit and shame on us for thinking that Neotel was anything but a business?

just some thoughts on Neotel, however what do I know... I only have to pay for the service, not like it gives me any reason to complain.

Neotel are in a very good position to start an all out price war,yet they fumble in the dark...
 
Unfortunately, no... Neotel are not in a good position. They have no access to the local loop, and their national wireless coverage is pathetic and rolling out VERY slowly. The public are partly to blame for that cos they kick up a fuss where ever Neotel wants to put up a tower. So the coverage remains pathetic.

Neotel is about to go "Ta ta" - everybody knows they are worthless.
 
Internet Solutions recently announced that it is testing SEACOM and it will not be long before commercial services using bandwidth from the new cable system hits the market.

You cannot compare University fat pipes with average joe consumer pipes. The universities in CT area are all interconnected via a FO backbone so it's easy to deliver a fat pipe to them.

So why has Seacom only lit up 80Gbps? Is it a technical issue? The whole point of Seacom was that supply would increase significantly thereby driving down prices and increasing demand. Is Seacom keeping supply low on purpose.

There is no demand for the other. They only have a few customers so far. There is no point in lighting it up if nobody is gonna use it.

I know you and I could put it to good use, but the ISPs are quite happy to rape us at these prices for a little bit longer... therefore there is no demand from the ISPs.
