Evening Guys,

Im not sure what to sell my Corolla for. Its a 2003 1.6 GLE with 348000 km's on the clock. Ive got a full service history and it just goes. Every 3 weeks I might need to top up with a bit of oil but otherwise it gives 0 problems. I dawdle along at 90km/hour mostly, thats probably why its gone so long. 2nd owner, bought it at 80000km from Halfway Toyota in 2008.

Im thinking privately I would get more than WBC and those guys.

Guaranteed you would as they make their markup.

if its costing you less than a car payment to maintain, why sell? I only sold my second hands when they started giving problems or had to upgrade larger for the family.

Otherwise pocket the money, don't be a Jones follower.

Basically work out for yourself a TCO threshold and work from that.

keep it. I have a spare tazz that I use everytime I blow up or wreck my current car, some years I drive it more than the newer ones

when my daily "blows up" or I fark up the oil filter o-ring, like the last time I serviced it, my old failthful 125cc Scooter is a great stand-in.

Rings are probably gone if you are topping up oil that often. Gonna blow the gasket soon if you don't get it sorted and believe me it's not an easy or cheap fix. Those first gen vvti motors were really crap. They were pushed out on the dealer floors earlier than they should hence why there were so many issues. Its quite rare to find one that has never been touched or replaced with over 300k. About 10 years back the market was flooded with 'low' mileage imports of the 1zz, 3zz and 4zz. Places like Japan Auto and Boston Jap Tech were even overhauling the import units and bench testing them for customers added peace of mind since the motors were notorious with breaking rings, gaskets and even chucking a rod through the block. Nice cars with good performance but the most unreliable Corolla in recent times.

Thanks for the quick sale dude. R20k was a bit high I thought considering the brown colour, but it does seem to be reliable.
