Post Office website down for days

How much of that time was local?

I'm waiting for a small parcel from china via singapore post, it took a few days to get to sa but has been lying in jhb for 3 weeks already. Cooler master sent me a normal envelope on 2jan which only arrived 16mar.

Back in the mid to late 80's i traded amiga wares & demos with people all over the eu, nz & aus. Mail from the eu took about 7 days, nz/aus took about 11-14 days. All these went through customs with their little green stickers. I sent & received many packages every week, they were always on time, nothing in those days was ever stolen or lost.

Things have gone seriously backwards since those days!

Tell me about it. Parcels from China takes ages. 1 day after order it's been shipped and 3 or 4 days max to see Departed from Country of Origin.... After that it takes about 5 weeks. Stays in JHB for 4 weeks then 1 week to deliver from JHB. And to think the CEO said the R24 is to pay for the staff handling the parcels at the airport....

Tried pinging postoffice.co.za and got this back:

2014 was the first time I ordered internationally and all parcels got here within 3 weeks. Half of that time was international and half was in customs and being sent on. Things are just getting worse with time.

One of my parcels has been sitting at VdBijlpark hub since 28/02.

If it's that long in the hub it's usually lost unfortunately. If customs grab a item it usually gets stuck at "inbound office" or something like that at JHB.

I'm pretty sure that at least one and possibly both of my packages have been stolen.

Won't be surprised. Usually when we say a parcel is lost it means stolen. A parcel can't just get lost without a trace.

Why would someone steal a set of Germany Swastika decals for a model aircraft?

That I don't know I just wonder how the lose it though. Do they dump it in a bin by mistake or what.

Website down.

Telephone number crashed due to volume of calls.

Anyone have the SMS number on hand for domestic tracking?

I think it is 35277, but not sure if they still use it. I have received recent notices via SMS to inform me about packages at the PO.

Tried it, does not work.
It did work for me, but maybe I was just very lucky. The SMS did come via a different number though, but I did use the mentioned number to register the request. It gave the international tracking number and then the local tracking number.
