Can somebody please help me, where do i get the international tracking nr for a parcel posted overseas. i've got the ZA nr
 
Call SAPO, ask to speak to customs and then quote your number. They will have the incoming parcel number.
 
The problem is as follows - when a parcel leaves South Africa - the tracking nr change. And when a parcel enters SA it chane - so the nr tht you receie from our local Postal Service is only valid in that country.
So how can you trace it?!
 
Thanks man. I am able to track it, the sender of the parcel, verified with his post office in overseas and apparently its in South Africa. But I don't know where

South Africa is different. You can track a parcel sent FROM SA using
the EMS number on foreign websites:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/help/emstrack.html
but you can't track a parcel sent from overseas in SA
using those sites or the SA site with the foreign number
because the guys here give a new number for the internal
(final) part of the parcel's journey.

To get the new number, you must call CUSTOMS, call your
local SAPO depot (CapeMail in CPT) and ask for Customs,
then quote your foreign tracking number. They will give
you the new tracking number and tell you where the
parcel is. Sometimes they are unable to tell you however,
if the item hasn't arrived in SA yet or was stolen en route
usually in South Africa before customs could check it.
This has happened to me before.

If you punch the number your sender gave you into the
corrsponding website on
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/help/emstrack.html
you'll get proof when the item left that country and sometimes
even a flight number.

If your country is not listed on the link provided,
Google for it, you'll find it. The URL doesn't have all the
post offices around the world, just the common ones.
 
That only goes back to SAPO - and once it is out off SA - you cannot trace it - because the tracking nr change - WHERE DO I GET THAT NEW NR

I've been telling you, call SAPO on your telephone and ask
for CUSTOMS, then quote THEM the number you HAVE from
overseas.

So the package was posted in South Africa then - the only way is to contact the number in that thread I linked to.

I'm still without the package sent from Korea, and JNB claims it never arrived in country, and Korea insist it left there and even provided the flight number etc.

Most likely some smart-ss stole it in SA. The stuff arrives in SA, it gets
diverted from or by corrupt customs officials and then you don't hear
of it again. The "Proudly South African" post office people will
blame Korea Post for the loss, which IMO is bull, sure it can happen,
but its more likely to happen here, we know the levels of accountability
in SA.

1. If the package was posted ABROAD, she'll need to get the tracking number from however posted the package. If they didn't bother to write it down, well tough luck then.
If she gets that number, she calls SAPO and asks for CUSTOMS and IF, big IF here, IF the item arrived in SA without being raped or stolen - then CUSTOMS
will have the new number (ending in ZA) on their computer terminal screen and will give it to her.

2. If the package was posted here, and sent abroad, you can often
use the destination post office to track the package with your local number.
If that doesn't work, then the receiver in the foreign country has to call
their post office in a similar manner to us (see 1 above).

I am still waiting for an item from overseas which was posted on 12th September...when I track it, it only shows dispatch number

First hand experience with the top class postal service in Korea and the very honest people there, I'm damn sure the parcel is in the clutches of a low life thief in SA.
I've given up on the people in JNB.
