PostBox-Courier.com how to

You can't look at it like this. The only determining factor is whether or not it's cheaper than buying locally.

If you need the item then the landed cost is what it is.

True. The item I need to order is not available here, but there are alternatives if I really have to.

I meant as in $100 or $1000.

Nevertheless, it's something you're going to use all the time so why not get what you want?

The price is $230 with ca tax, plus $14 for standard shipping to the depot. You are correct, it will just work out more than anticipated, so might delay it till month end.

Will the VAT be the total price including shipping, or just on the purchased price?

And when you guys said do not choose an unnamed shipping option, what does that mean exactly?

For anyone who's interested I've had good experiences with Pitney Bowes Inc (Ebay Global shipping) and Tenso (via Buyee.jp). Tenso of course do not pay VAT on your behalf but their packing is brilliant. PBI has lousy packing though, but do pay VAT. But so far, two items and no damage via PBI. The notebook Tenso sent me from Japan arrived in pristine condition with multiple layers of "popcorn" and bubble wrap. Tenso runs two sites though, their Buyee service charges commission per % value, while their Tenso service charges commission by weight.

Buyee of course serves Yahoo Japan.
Tenso Japanese website shops like those found through http://www.kakaku.com/
PBI is Ebay.com's global shipping partner operating from Kentucky and sending stuff out via FedEx.

How does Postbox Courier make money off this service? Do they add a percentage to the original shipping charge?

They charge you a shipping fee based on weight, size & destination. So you pay for the original shipping to their depot and then they bill you a new shipping fee to the final destination.

Is there any way to track one's parcel in transit, from the UK / US *before* Bercoexpress take over?

The last couple of parcels were not handled by Berco and the new parcel ID references seem not to work on the Berco website. I can't remember who the new courier is but I'll look closely today as hopefully my new Bahco files are arriving.

Yes, ask Gary for more info (Gary is the PB guy). If memory serves me correctly, my order number was also the tracking number. And I think Gary gives a link for tracking purposes

he ships now with
seabourne.co.za
your parcel number is your tracking number, you can track from the moment it arrives in SA

Thanks. This is correct. I've just been contacted by a person from Seabourne Express as I need to make payment for customs fees and VAT.

I find tracking locally isn't really necessary because if you pay the previous evening the goods are with you just after lunch.

What I do find is frustrating at times is the delay from sending goods from the USA depot until such time that PBC works out what the charges will be.

Not a big deal though, excellent service as usual.
