Potholes in JHB

Hi all, i have been thinking, since there are so many potholes appearing on our roads, and everyones frustration with JRA. Lets take the initiative to mark these potholes with plastic 2L cool drink bottles filled with water. using the green ones like sprite, mountain dew, 7up, are more visible even in the rain.

Since these bottles can take very high pressure, when filled with water and sealed tightly, if placed inside the pothole, with the head sticking out against the back of the pothole, the dual purpose of this is to also save someones wheel and tire if they do happen to hit it, and be visible to drivers.

A cheap effective way to mark potholes, similar to the effect of a cat eye

the problem is that the recycling people might just end up stealing the bottles, and need to be alerted to only take them when it is repaired.
 
The potholes in the North (or at least where I am) are not existent, luckily.

When I lived in East London in the Eastern Cape, some dude was obviously really pissed off & he took a can of yellow or white spray paint & he made a huge outline around it & made an arrow pointing towards it. He did it in a few suburbs too. It made the news papers & people wondered who this mystery man was but, his actions were noticed & the municipality had it fixed within no time.
 
I have seen somebody spray paint the potholes in lonehill with neon green to mark them, but it is not effective in the rain, good idea though :)

I wonder if JHB can have a mystery man like this, maybe many mystery men and women, looking out for each other.



ps. if your car has indicators on the mirrors, then the flag covers are not for you, many people dont realize this, but you only notice the indicator in the dark with a cover on

Good idea. Write "Viva ANC -----> (pothole)"

That'll get 'em to pull finger!
 
In Kenya the poor people fill them with sand & stick tiny red flags into them and hope you pay them for making your life easier.

Pretty solid idea actually.
 
Nice concepts, we need to show unity in SA and at least warn the fellow drivers, hence i thought of water filled plastic cool drink 2L bottles, it even saves your car, and visible in the rain. if the Govt are too slow maybe we take the initiative. start our own campaign, hopefully coke or pepsi can sponsor us :)
