Did I ever say they were close to overheating? No.
Did I provide facts? Yes.
Did you misrepresent those facts? I'd say yes since you posted the lower temp out of a two card setup whereas the highest temp out of the two is more important. You even claim that 10 degrees is not much, which it very clearly is in SA. Lots of misdirection

I guess disagreeing with you is a personal attack?

edit: back OT, if you can afford two GTX460s you have a very good setup. Lower end GPUs scale like beasts, and these two cards will often beat a single GTX480.

460 1GB SLi > 480 anyday...

With regard to the heat of the cards.. You guys must also remember to check what the ambients are in the review. No point some guys testing in Hot Texas and the others in Cold Russia.. I always take the highest temp as a worst case but doable.

1. L2R and you will see in those charts they are both the SC = Super Clocked versions whereas the normal 460 runs at 64C
2. 10C on top of say 71 is by no means too hot in SA
3. It seems quite the opposite in fact, "1gb versions run hotter at around 90 degrees if you were wondering" absolute bs the link you provide there doesnt even have the 1gb card on

460's in SLi are pretty damn good :)
Yes, generally i've seen they use 20-23C,

Lets do this! :D Linky So I used several sources and didnt link them all, sue me. And does that 3Dmark test even use 100% of the GPU? The temps reported by that review are much lower than most other reviews using furmark.

Full load temps (furmark) on a EVGA SC 768 SLI = 89 degrees
GTX460 stock 1gb SLI = 91 degrees

Yes ok, if you "play" Furmark all day you will get to that number...eish. but say look on Crysis it run at 78C much better no?
Whats next wanna debate if its legit to bench temps with Furmark VS real games? Only kidding am too lazy atm :P
With all that said the cards will be just fine even at 90C as with most nvidia cards, they wouldn't sell them if they could fry themselves.
If you are worried about it go for a brand with a life-time warranty like Evga :D

I dunno if I should by a 460 1gb now and upgrade to SLI a few months down the line or buy two 768mb 460s now along with a new PSU.....
 
Honestly i would go for a single card, it has enough power for your resolution, later you can get a 2nd one :D

Edit: I suggest going for the 1gb version, it has a slight edge over the 768mb version and you will still save allot

What card do you currently have? maybe you can use it for a spare physX card?
 
So turn PhysX off then. If properly coded it can run on a cheapy single core CPU, its a money making scheme for nvidia. Anyway, I'd get the 1gb version now. Although iirc you can get a 5850 for the same price which is a better card.

I dunno. Saw a vid and it looked great. I'll wait until the game is out before making a decision.
 
Haha, tbh i have always had Ati cards, but recently when my 4870 died i had roughly 5k to spend on a 3d card so i got a gtx 480. In the end i think there is some personal preference, so buy what you can afford :D

I could afford a 5970 but it's not a wise purchase considering I'm not much of a gamer :p
