evening all

The power in Glen Marais, Kempton park went off at about 17h45 today the 27th of June 2007.

What I would love to know is how extensive is this latest power out and any idea what the problem is?

I suspect it may be load sharing which could mean a 2 hours outage but can anyone be more specific?

Everything is ok in my side of Kempton (Birchleigh North) - perhaps an overload in your area?

Good luck though - hope it comes back soon!

sorry to revive such an old thread but what's the word on the kempton sub station fire? I've heard we may be without power for 3-4days...

I am hearing about some substation going crazy every other day. Its rather insane. Port Elizabeth was down as well... um, it would be walmer? Im under correction, but yeah. Systems are not designed to be shut off and put back online the way they are being used with load shedding.

the silver lining about this is it is forcing eskom to maintain stuff that may have been neglected. hence we can understand why they want so much money - not just for powerstations but for all the stuff they know that is going to go wrong.

eskom are not as stupid as we like to think they are.

Clearly they are that stupid or they wouldn't have neglected the maintenance to start with.

Yeah sorry. Considering that these sub-stations are blowing up as a result of excessive, daily, shutdowns and restarts over a couple of months, we can assume they would have lasted another decade at least, with no major repairs, under normal usage.

Eskom is causing these failures and its going to cost them millions they wouldn't have to had have spent until well after the power crisis was resolved. Not to mention that its money that should be being spent on new power stations and upgrades.

They have maneuvered themselves into a lose-lose scenario. Thats about as stupid as you can get.

I live in Kempton Park. Its pitch black here. No street lights, no traffic lights, NOTHING!!!!

I'm sitting with a GREAT laptop with 3 hours battery live (If i work well with it) with a candle... HOW ROMANTIC!!! The normal 3G signal is now GPRS. Its not Vodacoms fault.

My father tells me that every sub station has a SPECIAL kind on oil that is non conducting but after some time it becomes old and begins conducting. That causes a short in the system and may have caused the fire.

ESKOM just doesn't do the regular stuff that needs to be done... pushing everything to the limits!

Have to leave you for 4-7 days, My UPS is empty and the backup batteries aswell.

Does anyone know where I can get a 'Car Battery' (12V) -> 220V for my PC's?

Our power is still off at home, I have to go buy a generator this afternoon just to keep the stuff in the fridge from going vrot.

Power came back in Spartan just before 10 and seems to be holding.

What a CF.....

No, you as the consumer is expected to pay for their stupidity!

Search this forum - keywords are inverter, UPS, solar power

Good luck.

I also live in Kempton, the generator I am ordering from overseas is still about a week off (damn :mad:) but what can i say, right now just hooking my UPS up to my car battery and running just about anything that will work on it, so holding thumbs, just hope my ups doesn't die in the process.

Sorry to revive this post yet again. But what is happening to the power AGAIN today?

Saw a huge outage this morning driving from Birchleigh to Spartan. Robots (and everything else) were down from Elgin rd down to Festival Mall.

I wonder if this is going to get worse before the increase is approved?

hi all. bringing this up again. anyone know what is going on with power in birchleigh north. it is out once again. know how long it is going to be off for?

My tenants said it was a scheduled outage - apparently they received a slip or something?

we had a power outage in Sandton as well today
