Power outage Centurion 07 March 2011

So last night i was on my way to the Virgin Active in Highveld, when the little power station across the road was on fire. This in turn also seems to have outed about half of centurion [Highveld, Rooihuiskraal etc]

I've tried looking on Eskom's site for info on how to find out how long it will take, since power has been down from 7pm last night up until <currently>

Does anyone know anything?:confused:
 
We stay on the Highveld hill. I was at work and missed the action but my wive had a good view.

Our power returned around midnight.

I recall a fire at the same station last year May after a lightning strike, so not sure what the issues is. Overloaded?
 
i heard that if the power outage is more than 24 hours, you can claim against Eskom, is this true?
 
Its taken out the Telkom Data Center in centurion all of their VPN products appear down. We are off for 4 hours now. When I phone Telkom some stupid person tells me they are "looking for the generator".

Yes our offices are very close to the Data Centre and our power has been down since 6 yesterday.

Somehow I don't think you will have much luck with your claim Bizkit87, you should however be able to claim for rotten food etc from your insurer.
 
Mind you, you can still go through two minutes of menu navigation only to told that they can't help you. I suggested to them that that was stupid and they agreed. Trying to get it changed though .... maybe finding a gennie isn't the worst idea. Hint: Barlowworld or ask Transnet to run a loco up nearby
 
Looking for generator?

Well, it was running fine last night. The whole building had power.

So they lost it during office hours?

Lack of maintenance... one thing the new South Africa has trouble comprehending is transformer oil... and why it needs to be take good care of...
 
"All Eco Park Owners/Residents,

With reference to the electricity supply that was interrupted at approximately 18h00 on 7 March 2011. We would like to advice that the main transformer in Witch Hazel street that supply a large portion of Centurion and Zwartkops malfunctioned to the extent where it is damaged the electrical substation situated inside Eco Park.

I have received confirmation from Impact Meter Services that the city council have done all the repairs that they could with the equipment available but that the substation has to be replaced. The city council do not have such a substation readily available and have to wait for delivery of a new unit, which as per Impact Meters will be during the course of the week. We regret to advice that the electricity supply to Eco Park will only be restored by Thursday, 10 March 2011, at the earliest.

We need to stress that this is a repair that must be undertaken by the city council as the transformer belongs to the city council.

Impact Meters will also communicate with you by means of an SMS and update you accordingly."
 
Lines have been going crazy since yesterday morning.
We've also had a 6-hour power outage in Rynfield yesterday, there seems to be instability in the grid.

It is still down at my house. Apparently only coming back up tomorrow some time.
 
Busiest intersection in Centurion? John Vorster & N1! Will Metro Police help with the traffic while the power is down? No!

And yesterday I watched a Metro Police use his lights to get over the dead robot!

I was on a bike so could not get his plate.
 
WE have power again! Oak Ave Centurion. I hope the rest of you are also back up and running?
