Hi guys, some people are saying these energy drinks are bad for you.

How can this be? :wtf:

or is it just trolling?

For sporting events. Fine.

For everyday consumption.. Enjoy walking while you still can.

They are good for after intense exercise.

Otherwise its not good.

I would like to know why it is not good as apposed to just saying its not good, I have been hearing that the whole time and thats why I am hoping some one could give me a reason.

Google it dude.

The drinks are actually fine if you consumer normal soft drinks. Most people have the issue with the fact that stuff like powerade etc has so much sugar in it. Isotonic or not, you are drinking fluids (which is good), but you are also getting a chunk of sugar.

So its not worse than a coke, but its not much better.

They're also (by doctors even) recommended as electrolyte-replacement (water alone doesn't cut it) after you've had to toss your cookies. But as an everyday/all the time drink - yea, that's a LOT of sugar that has to be burned off.

Any other drink then?

cool, thanks guys. Is there anything else I can drink instead of pure water then?

I know almost all of you are going to ask why i don't like pure water. I don't like the taste, i feel nausea almost every time i drink it so i would like to find something else then.

I was use to drinking allot of soda drinks especially Coke, MY FAVORITE!.. but i stopped, been sober for a while now and yes i have lost a few kilos already, but i am looking for something else to drink than a engergade or powerade then. any ideas would be great.. please don't tune me .. a drop of lemon in water :erm:

hmmm, buy low sugar ginger beer (home made... stuff).
Don't touch diet-anything, usually has aspertame, which isn't good for you (and can actually be worse :o).
Drink flavoured water. I know those have little sugar, but it's still sweet (unless you have after a coke, because then you can't taste the sugar).
FRUIT JUICE! Like proper, fresh Fruit juice is really really good for you because it contains electrolytes, a fructose (like sugar, but is a lil better for you), Has a lot more vitamins in it, and is possibly the best thing you can drink. But please make sure it's proper fruit juice, it might cost more, but it's waaay worth it. I always will prefer it over any soft drink :p, even when drinking my vodka (vodka cranberry :) )

OP everything is bad for you in some way

a general rule to living a long and healthy life is to eat/drink with moderation.

its OK to have a coke, every now and then, of course OJ is better for you but the adverse affects of drinking a can of coke every often is really negligable.

i guess the same goes for Powerade/energade/redbull/monster etc etc

I can vouch for what Bdt said - my doctor told me that after a night of heavy partying, having some energy drinks (she recommended Powerade or Game) as an electrolyte replacement is the best thing to sort you out.

i have played squash fairly regularly now for the last 2o years or so. used to drink water or coke after. suffered terrible cramps in the evenings. switched to powerade and cramps stopped. BUT only drink it after intense work outs. too much sugar for regular use. if you/your family have a history of diabetes, be careful. dilute and drink - still better than COKE or water for fluid replacement.
