I mean, given the state of things as they stand, were they really wrong?
You become self sufficient, many people have and continue with their lives. Without starting to sound like lexy you shouldn't be relying on the state.

Wish I had your confidence. My household has always been that; self sufficient and rising to the challenges, now we can't even find a position to start fixing from again... going on for years.

But agree that's where the focus needs to be. And relying on the state is fine if no choice, but literally no apparent choice.

Hmm power alert has updated, marginally better and indicates no shedding from 5am tomorrow

I don’t, but whining and bitching about it on a daily basis does no good. Whinging that you were skipped a slot, whinging that you don’t understand why they’re in X stage. There’s more to life than Eskom living rent free in your head.

You aren't wrong, but we also find ourselves in a situation where Eskom and the ANC's every other failure very much lives and disrupts our daily lives one way or another

Don't kid yourself about pre-94 government, and provision of electricity/energy, we would have seen the same thing unfolding.

This is a characteristic of all States. As a form of governance, it specializes in producing shortages.

If an independent 'Cape of Good Hope' fails to learn this lesson, it will be nothing more than a temporary reset. Not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but .... this is a simple matter of pattern recognition. And perverse incentives.

Agree, generally, but I doubt that old govt. would have allowed Eskom itself to fail. Maybe budget delays and more focus on green "solutions", but more likely a focus on other unrelated shortages. IMO

Eskom was a main pride trophy back then.

Yeah.. no. If that was the case - every country would be seeing the same issues.

Agreed. There is no way we’d be in this mess now. Sure we would have other sorts of issues. But not regular power cuts and water shortages.

We have been the guinea-pig(*) for the big cull in 1st world countries, which involves removal of cheap, reliable, sustainable energy resources. This energy's track-record is mainly about enhancing the survival potential of the human species. That's a major problem for some. You don't need to be an investigative journalist to see this.

Think they haven't started rationing 1st world countries? Like Britain and the US? Think again. What are '15 minute cities'?

Think threatening corrupt African countries leaders with withholding foreign 'aid' is not going to get their 'green' compliance? They're already threatening the 3rd world.

* because SAn middle-class has been so easily guilt-tripped for State failure, and too easily tempted into State-based market protectionism.

Yawn. TL;DR

To abbreviate - there is a real political will, amazingly in some very "respected" circles as well, to cull the population of the planet with "shortages" as it's believed we can't otherwise survive.

Sci-fi?
Really not, they are for real.
8 days to go and counting... it's been nice knowing you guys.

The apparently good news - population is actually going to go down, naturally.
My opinion - something is definitely going on, too much weird smoke

It's an interesting question because the Apartheid State was at war with the old enemy i.e. the British blue-bloods.

They were different in that sense, to the current government, which embraces the blue-blood's globalist agenda.

So the blue-blooded State won that particular battle, which was a turf war, not an ideological battle. They both believed in Might-Makes-Right as a sustainable approach to survival of the human species. Cut from the same authoritarian cloth.

The Apartheid government would not have been able to maintain their privilege. Not with the size and influence of the blue-bloods successfully taking the side of (some of) the oppressed.

Put it this way, if the Apartheid State was influential enough, they would have proceeded along the same lines as the current globalists. They were of the same Malthusian, mindset.
