wowsers 17 days with no power is unreal - we once lost power for 3 days - the ward councilor got one of the main engineers from our version of City power on the job with his team, over at the substation for the area - the man stood there for hours to make sure we got power and made sure that these guys fixed it working non stop (not one guy working with 10 guys supervising and drinking coke while scratching their balls as usual) but whoever was there had to run about like a blue-ar5e monkey till it was sorted out because he stood there watching

Our ward councilor is a very sharp conscientous guy who makes sure the area runs like clockwork - even when we lose water he finds out whats happening and if its burst pipes and its being repaired the guy takes and sends video to the residents he knows of the ensuing repairs with repair timetables etc and he always sits with the engineers till things are fixed and tested then back to running normally - even copper theft in the electricity substations is sorted out by the next day as long as the council has stock of those replacement bus bars

people in our area have become spoiled with how efficient he is and they complain when anything happens and it takes longer than 6 to 10 hours to fix because he usually gets things sorted pretty quickly so the residents in the area are now not used to lights or water not working for longer than 10 hours (unscheduled)

To be fair; our ward councilor is excellent. He goes above and beyond. Even when residents treat him like ****.

Has his own WA group to report and escalate issues on.

Then you get assholes getting upset because he kicked them off his group when he has told them no chit chat in that group. It is for escalations only.

They feel entitled to be on it.

Yup my dad is shocked by how slack ours is, he moans about his one, but in reality his one is on the ground

I think being in larger, higher-income areas maybe helps, and maybe some of the pet poorer areas as well like Orange Grove, Soweto, Lenasia. The extremes..

My dad isn't in a higher income area, his houses are about 800k less then ours

I mean generally, there won't be any fixed rule about it. Think Brazil and their area-extremes, 3rd world mentality.

The ANC is perpetuating the race thing through quota laws.
 
I have had the experience of living here in Joburg under City Power and back home where Eskom is in charge, odd thing is that the service I get from Eskom back in the sticks is way much better than what I get from City Power here in the larneys.

And the escalation process actually works at Eskom, with City Power, escalation is simply assigning the fault to a different technician.
