Well are you at 49.9hz right now?? Cause that's what mine is at
I made a thread about it a while back and it was determined that everyone all around the country was the same down to the dips and everything. That’s why on grid watch Uk they have the frequency, it’s like the heartbeat of the grid.

My inverter doesn’t have decimal point and is reading 50 at the moment.
 
Where does the mini sub get the frequency from? I thought frequency comes from the power station generators that are all synced together.
Yea spot on comes from the power station

A sub station is a dead object the freq of the source high voltage lines induces the same freq on the lower voltage windings

Logic says that should work better but it is actually not the easiest way

Giving a shock to try lose the green a bit to be able to see the bottom to make vacuum easier , and a flocculant to let the dead algae settle and then vacuum on waste is easiest way to get it clean

When the algae dies it is a fine particle that often works its way through the filter sand back to the pool and you just can't get tid of the milky look that easy (you can with gel blocks but it takes time)

Milky because dead algae is bleached white by the chlorine

Using a flocculant and letting it settle means you can get it clean quicker expelling it via waste

And going hard on chlorine is advised ie rather too much than too little

As if you don't kill all the algae it grows back , so you gotta keep shocking it every day until the battle is won

And dependant on pool size you may not be done vacuuming before water drops below weir

So get yourself a spare hose to hose (not a must though depends ) and use it instead of weir valve , and throw the hose pipe in the weir when you start vacuuming and open the tap when the level gets to low to keep weir full

That way you can vacuum until done even if water drops below weir

Edit do brush down the sides when you throw in the flocculant , remove the kreepy as lifting it out next day disturbs the settled crap can leave the pipes is

If the dead algae makes a bubbly muck that floats ie you have crap on the bottom and crap on top i do the crap om top first

Empty The pipes then let it float on top and then keep one end going in he weir and out the top if someone hold it so it doesn't slip out , you walk around the pool with the other end and essentially laso the crap and pull towards weir and put pump on waste pulling the other end closer making the loop smaller and smaller so most gets sucked into the weir and out the waste pipe, stirring in circular motion in weir van help create vortex , once top is most gone (you bever get it all use the net it doesn't scoop it but breaks it up so it settles

Then vacuum bottom on waste

So we had a little bit of rain and thunder.

Power is now ****ed. Affecting multiple areas. Luckily I keep my batteries charged as much as possible now as Cit power just can’t be trusted.

Thinking of using our old Telkom line to run a couple of small fans or light bulbs, just need to find a resistor around 200 to 300 KOhms by the looks of it, to bring the auto-adjusted voltage down from about 44V to 12V (would be higher without the old ADSL pots filter, but that helps protect their line / our equipment from spikes / and maybe from detection).
More would be nice but the current is too low.

Can't exactly be legal of course, but is it my problem if they leave power on the old connection? It's on our property.
Another line we stopped using years ago had power for over a year :giggle:

don't think 0.24W is enough for any fans or lights.

I've read it's around 200mA at 48V DC so more like about 9W, but this power auto-adjust stuff they do is weird (industry normal though) so not sure. I did find a project online where the SA guy was able to power his smartphone's charger...

I can imagine evey house with at least one free load shedding light
 
It's impressive that you still have Telkom copper coming into your house, the fact that it's live even more impressive.
There's quite a lot still using it, Telkom just wishes it would go away so exaggerate. They told my neighbour this week that they're removing copper soon - about the 4th time in about 3 years..

I think that’s just the limit of the cables. I heard the voltage drops to 12V when you pick up the phone and increases to 100V when it rings. Let us know if it works, I also have an old line.

Lifting the handset does drop the voltage, will have to try that again.
I think the ring was 90V, definitely AC, and thought I remembered ADSL was 110V DC but there's other info out there

I read the handset draws 20mA, not sure what happens if you draw more than that, melt the RJ11 connector?
