What's truly mind-boggling is that after a couple of decades, the middle-class still does nothing about the problem.... despite being the overwhelming source of tax for the failing performance.

Whatever you reward in life you get more of, not less.

Why keep rewarding failure?

I think I know exactly why the MC does nothing.

What can the middle class do? How do you propose withholding tax when it goes off your pay? How do you withhold VAT and fuel taxes?

The first thing to do is to not assume that because it is not being discussed that there isn't something that would work.

Because it could simply be that you are hanging out with a bad crowd who would prefer to maintain their illegitimate privilege, at your expense. If they are using that economic advantage to keep you in the dark, shouldn't you broaden the scope of your sources of information?

The important thing is to talk about how it might be possible. Throw some ideas out there.

I talk about threatening to withold tax in a very real, legitimate sense.

Do you think talk of holding a referendum to gauge the will of the people is falling on the deaf ears of the incumbents?

The largely newer middle-class in this country has an inherited history of being passive.
Except the Zulus. Sometimes.

If you're going to make assumptions, you may as well back yourself i.e. instead of assuming there is nothing you can do about an unsavoury situation and sitting back waiting for it to decapitate you.

You made the assumption that the middle class does nothing despite being the biggest source of tax. Explain your assumption and provide ways they can revolt. Don't turn it onto me...

Start a group. Whatever you call it.... a free market union. Something that can act as a central point of focus/communication.

Then you can begin to see how many of you there are. Ultimately you will have to threaten to withhold your support to get anywhere. And you will have to mean it... no idle threats.

We have seen too many a middle-class obliterated. I get that the middle-class is keeping things running, I'm just saying in terms of sending a loud, clear signal to those who are obviously taking the piss.

It's a bit of a no-brainer.... educate yourself, and then educate others.

And it's a process, brian_g. There is no other way to reclaim responsibility for maintaining your cultural values.

It's not rocket-science, just don''t expect all the appriiopriate knowledge to fall into place after the first hour.

How exactly? Your PAYE is already gone. You don't get a say in that.

It's a change in mindset, that turns a 'tell me what to do' into seeing options everywhere you look.

The mind set has to do with equality before the law. Is anyone above the law? Ask yourself this question, honestly, and listen to the answer. I mean if you look at a society... doesn't have to be the one you live in. Is everyone de facto equal before the law? Ask someone else's employer: 'If your employee says, thanks for the offer but I will pay anyone I owe, that 20%, on my own.... what would you do?'

You have to believe in equality before the law, to understand what power you have to act.

If nobody is allowed to take a deduction from what you legitimately earned... that would be equality before the law.

If some are allowed, and not others... that is inequality before the law.

If you already accept that that you live in a society dogged with this problem, well, now ask: 'what can I do about that?'

p.s. bear in mind, if the above mindset is new to you, you're not looking for a light-switch, you're looking to escape contributing to the problem ('Learn to walk before you can run').
