I saw Elon Boi commenting and that on Bird app about nuclear so he probably stole the idea from Twitter... If SA gets more Nuclear plants i think im outa here even faster... Don't need no FAKE engineer who bought his degree running a nuclear plant... haibo
Nevermind that, the building process will be riddled with corruption.

Because brand-new Beemers and other perks are more imporkanter than paying Eskom their dues.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Theoretically, the IPP process places all the project management on the builder. The agreement will state the terms of how much Eskom will buy the power for and escalation costs for inflation.

So it takes the government out of the build process.

Thank you for bringing me back to reality... I fell off the bus there and forgot i shouldn't need to worry about these since if they are built they will 1) be not operational and 2) not be finished in my lifetime...

Its been like 7 years for them to build a road inbetween my area and another so a power station will take approximately 45 years

For the doubters

Theoretically Koeberg should almost never break down. Yet every few weeks..

My understanding is Koeberg never broke down, its the international regulations board which forced them to shut the one unit down for prolong life maintenance, they have had an occasional trip and that here and there but for the most part its runs like a well oiled machine...

We could dig into this and say possibly because they don't have corrupt maintenance contractors working on it etc but if i recall uptime wise it was one of the highest

Breakdowns aren't the only issue, I think I recall more like 5 incidents in a couple of years. Not hearing that about nuclear elsewhere in the world.
I remember the "bolt", the "jellyfish" and recently, a "fault" that tripped the reactor a week or 2 after refuelling. There might have also been a transmission fault with the power lines tripping the station, so 4 times in its history.

And the new one today

Even without the history, this is SA and ANC do what they want.

Other countries have actual media to report on and a surplus of power meaning if a unit trips it doesn't make "BREAKING NEWS"... i think SA is one of the only places whenever you listen to the news one of the top stories is Eskom every single time...

Yeah, in this place mist makes the headlines.

What new one?

Koeberg reactor has to be taken offline for another 200 days

The Unit 1 outage 127 has been scheduled to start on 24 July 2024, which provides some additional time for the NNR to complete their reviews, as the issuing of the LTO (long-term operation) licence for Unit 1 is technically needed to allow fuel to be re-introduced into the reactor.

Whatever that involves, more less-than-normal activity.
Sorry, can't understand anyone trusting seriously sensitive public tech in this country.

Is unit 1 not currently running and unit 2 is down for further lifetime maintenance? That was my understanding, if i recall they took 1 unit down to operate on and when its up and running the other was going down for the same thing?

Our argument exactly.
Can't trust;
Eskom
ANC
contractors (some)
Municipalities
blahblahblah

And all the rules in the world won't stop them if they want to (or do) interfere. So no argument.
