I think it's gonna be a long long while thanks to the subs going down as well. My batteries just dipped into 50% now

Yeah potentially another day maybe? Fortunately there is lots of sun today. I also have gas - so hot water and cooking have not been an issue either.

Hopefully sooner, does look like it's going to be a decent day at least so batteries should be topping up.

Could be a bunch of people just with Portables and inverters that are charging? Cause you know complexes don't allow gennies or solar panels cause heaven forbid it destroys the aesthetics.
For now who knows, but on my side I am more and more wanting to finally get the wifi dongle for my inverter, cause now I cannot tell when power is 100% until the street lights come on. Cause it seems everyone and their dog has backup power of some variety so lights are burning next door, across the road, behind me. It's like dammit how am I supposed to know.
Inverters would probably use a quarter of what a geyser draws so if they are really battling then they should turn their geysers off during loadshitting and turn them back on when they go to bed.

It depends on what the amps are set at, most 12v ones will draw 120 to 240 at most, while 48 can go up to 3000w if not setup correctly. But yeah generally what trips the power is people putting their kettles on, stoves, all the miscellanous batteries start charging, the vampire drain things, fridges, freezers, even a geyser shouldn't immediately start drawing if you didn't use it during shedding.

I assume this is the 4pm slot when power comes back at 6pm that is the problem so a lot of people would have used hot water.

Also, that this is happening when it’s not cold tells me some upgrades are needed.

Why are people charging their batteries from Eskom? If they have panels they can just charge them when the sun is up.
The point I'm trying to make is that it doesn't make sense why they would complain about tripping so much recently. This is the 'affluent' area, no businesses, just houses, and most of them seems to have backups now, either proper solar, or portable trolleys.

Perhaps I'm overthinking and people just leave their geysers on.

Perhaps or infrastructure has had enough?

I would go with the latter because when I tell people on the WhatsApp group to turn them off I get all sorts of excuses.

I also have power, so is the rest of my immediate neighborhood, I have no idea why people like this over-exaggeration thing, it must feed the Doomsday monster they carry stound with them.
Not to be funny, but you're in Pretoria? They're talking about Jo'burg north.

Hmm should only be stage 3 tonight tops but of course Eskom is doing their own thing

Yeah, it doesn't look like a big job. But this is City power and they might need to call City parks out to come remove it. So who knows how long that would take.

I see parts of Wilgeheuwel did not restore after the 2 to 4 loadshed session this morning. Apparently about 30 meters of cable was stolen and no contractors can be appointed as they have no cable in stock due to the high incidences of cable theft. Only expecting supplies of cable from tomorrow.:(
