I would tend towards thinking you are right that they will drive systems harder over Xmas than they really should but it's not a game they should be playing and it's also short sighted because if they drive it too hard to look better now it's likely to bite us in the arse even harder around election time...

And yes from a political standpoint I welcome that because it will make the anger towards the anc even greater but economically it's a bad bloody choice.

Typical of them to announce it after my 10-12 slot on Saturday morning (not the first time either).
 
Saturday stats look fake, they forgot to remove the stage 2 loadshitting in the evening, or did they just end loadshitting for 5 hours?

Would need to see the OCGT usage for the period to know whether or not they made it happen through genuine increased generation vs. demand, or if they just burnt diesel irresponsibly and unsustainably again to give the public some useless temporary reprieve that we all pay for later.

EDIT: speak of the devil, looks like there's minimal usage over the weekend. If that's the case it means demand must have fallen significantly, because generation MW doesn't seem to have been improved.

Going to be fun if they bork half of the national grid over christmas, just to try and get in people's goodwill again.

Spoiler - they never will, as long as the people have elephant memory.

But it all turns to goldfish memory upon presentation of free kfc and t-shirts...

Kenya has had three nationwide blackouts in the last four months, the latest on Sunday evening.

After Kenya suffered its longest countrywide power outage in recent years in August, Mr Murkomen pledged that a power outage at the airport would "not happen again".

Sunday's blackout affected two of the busiest JKIA terminals, with the airports authority explaining that the back-up generators serving those terminals had "failed to immediately activate".

Energy Minister Davis Chirchir has attributed the outage to a powerline overload, which then caused a failure to the country's entire power network.

He said that "scheduled minimal load-shedding" will be executed in areas with high electricity demand, a measure used in countries like South Africa to prevent system collapse during demand spikes.

I think it must be coming from Mars... Cause how does it take this long? Though we have suspicions it was taken by Eagle Canyon who mysteriously had a mini station installed yesterday after only being off a few days.
