I've also seen that load reduction message coming from Ekurhuleni ward councillors.
The councillor in my ward said it came from a Bedford view councillor.
Seems like eskom is trying to use any reason to add to the amount it loadsheds, without accounting for it on the official schedule?

As in, we are shedding extra all over the place, while we are still "only" stage 4??

Didn't realize there were so many on the forum from PMB. Load reduction plus stage 4 load shedding means we're going to have no electricity for 12 hours a day "until further notice". To say I'm p*ssed would be an understatement.

Here is the schedule for anyone who doesn't have it yet, the block you fall under depends on the feeder station you get power from:

Also the response from the municipality on their Facebook page about Chris Pappas' announcement earlier is actually infuriating, I wouldn't have even known what was going on until now if he didn't make an announcement.

I just hope they sort it out soon because I don't think the city's infrastructure can last more than a week like this.
"There was no forewarning given to us"
You mean, years of pay up or we'll cut you wasn't enough
/shocked

Do a post search on FB and sort by recent. It's everywhere.

And that's assuming those numbers are accurate. Given this new load reduction development I wonder just how in the dark we really are.

Nice pun :)

I'm surprised there are not more water problems as well. 2023 is certainly going to be let's say interesting.

That article was written based on Tuesday's numbers. There was about a ~2GW improvement yesterday - one would think that was mostly due to increase coal generation rather than another source of power.

I'm so punny

I think water is the next big crisis. We just don't know it yet.
Yup. Everything should be more chilled right now so I shudder to think what's coming from January

That's the thing. I'm questioning how much faith we can put in any of their numbers. Could just be trust issues on my part but something feels off. More off than usual

Get used to no water and no water treatment coz that's the first thing that goes down when stages 6+ hits.

Weeks away.

Oh joy.

So " Load reduction " is when a city or area is assigned a certain amount of electricity per day.

Boksburg has xxx amount of electricity per day, if they go over this limit BAAM Load reduction, correct?

Dependant on the entire grid rather than per area.

If demand exceeds supply then everyone suffers all the same, relatively.

I believe first priorities are to keep big industry running and to meet contractual obligations with neighbouring countries.

As per Eskom spokesperson tweet in 2021 below. What they are now trying to pass off as load reduction is still a load shedding as, based on their own definition, load reduction due to overloading and illegal connections will not run on recurring schedule (as illegal connections and overloading is permanent).

So it's either switching off due to non-payment, or hidden additional load shedding.

Loadshedding = @Eskom_SA does not have enough capacity to generate electricity. Load reduction = switch off localised areas where illegal connections cause overload and damage infrastructure.

The sheer fact that they just turning off area's at will now without no warning is very concerning.

I can't operate my business like this nor can other sme's run on a hope that we might or might not be shut off for most of the day with a flick of coin, head or tails?! whats it gonna be!!

I share your sentiment.

We get "2 hour" and "4 hour" bouts of load shedding although that's always closer to 2.5 and 4.5 respectively.

A few times recently we would have LS from 16H00 to 22H00 with the next slot supposed to be a 2 hour shift from 02H00 to 04H00.

Three times now they have switched back on about 22H20 for roughly 10 mins, then just switch if off and it stays off until 04H00.

Yes, you sleep at that time but they screw up things like router battery backups or any other batteries that may need charging.
