I wonder what the politicians are saying at this moment about this predicament. So many people are not going to be able to celebrate the actual new year or have plans complicated by this.

Probably not much. I'm sure they're all set up for alternative power. There was an article last week about the lack of political will to fix Eskom.

I say we bring back the guillotine. I'm sure it'll get fixed right quick after a few of them get a real short haircut.

We all know diesel could have saved the important day.
Some think there's an attempt to make people submissive, like with Covid. Maybe

Sounds mad, that's just political suicide

I'm pretty sure the diesel cost is far less than cost to the economy so I'm stumped why they don't just suck it up and buy it. So they'll only get more after March.

Found it

Absolutely nothing.. Their backup power systems are automatic, so they don't actually know what loadshedding is.

Nope. Doing things that require actually fixing eskom would be a political suicide for the ANC.

Nothing will happen. The anc doesn't care. The people dont care. Their tribal chiefs are in power and that is all that matters. Settle in for the ride or emigrate

Those are your options
I am finishing my bachelor's degree in 2023. My girlfriend is done with her studies. We agreed she is the smarter one so we worked on getting her's studies done first. Now is my turn and once done we can leave SA. That is my plan.

If you came up with the plan, aren’t you the smarter one then?

Something I just noticed...the original announcement of no LS from 4pm was made on Friday afternoon yet that is when apparently some of the generators tripped etc. Curious and curiouser....

Nonsense, Steenbras is still able to replenish at higher stages. Cape Town is on the same stage as Eskom after 10pm at night in order to replenish.

Only problem is when Eskom is on stage 6, then we are on stage 5 which isn't really a huge difference. Other days like today while the rest of the country is on stage 2, we don't have any loadshedding at all.
Nonsense, with stage 6 for a while, CoCT also gets stage 6. This has been confirmed by CoCT and the people who live there. CoCT has been to stage 6 plenty times because of this.

CoCT themselves admitted that they are not able to replenish Steenbras quick enough during stage 6, and will not make a difference. In fact, I was in the Cape during a period where Steenbras was disabled and CPT had stage 6. People also told me that they have had stage 6 plenty of times. There was an article about this this very predicament and the fact that the food and beverages industry is being hammered in the Cape, and that job losses will follow. The truth is that the Cape is not much better off despite inheriting a large battery/Steenbras.
