Coming to a power station near you soon.... :whistling:

Star Trek : Voyage Home, the remake?

When the three (!) Kusile Units eventually come back online and both Koeberg units are operating...
Thought they indicated that the Kusile units will only be coming online next year, as the temporary chimney is going to take a year to build and the new one is going to take 2 years.

Any idea when they are due to be back online?

It's complicated. According to Engineering News, if Eskom obtain authorisation to operate the plants with temporary stacks, it will take 10 months or so: https://m.engineeringnews.co.za/article/temporary-kusile-stacks-set-to-bypass-fgd-for-a-year-while-remediation-works-are-completed-2023-01-30/rep_id:443

Should it secure the exemption, the first temporary stack construction will take about ten months from environmental authorisation, with stacks 2 and 3 becoming available at one-month intervals thereafter.

Also another Kusile plant is forecast to come online in June/August this year.

Yeah and 10 months to get permission + the 10 months to build

You can expect more load shedding going into winter. I think demand goes into the 30s over that period

It does, normally 35 or thereabouts, peak. However we should have some units back by then?

I'd like to understand what has drastically changed, from last year this time, where we had LS on the odd occasion, to September - when it went into LS every day since?

We lost a few big units that have yet to come back online? What's the hold up?

I think it's just a domino effect of breakages occurring more often, lack of funds for diesel, new parts etc etc.
