I feel that the gov knows how bad it's going to get as we move into winter. They declare state of emergency asap so they can get all their ducks in a row now with preparing for potential upheaval

What's the point? The new stacks will be broken too after 6 months of Eskom abuse.

You're overestimating the governments foresight. They can't see past the trough. Prepare for Cyril's shocked face, come winter.

This government doesn't have a cooking clue how bad the situation actually is.. They've been told numerous times by experts, but they're all to fscking thick to actually understand it.

They understand, they just don`t care, because currently there is zero impact on them. ANC > SA is still working well for them.

Because when they go home they have power, either through being excluded from load shedding or have been given generators and funds for petrol
 
If you're in the ANC, you eat at the trough, have a generator, money hidden offshore etc

Why would I worry about Joe schmoe?

I think @Sinbad is right...

They don't understand, but at the same time they don't care.

And I can confidently say they don't understand because I deal with their type of approach regularly from even very intelligent people who should know better.

Its the "Lets just throw more money or people at the problem and we can fix it quicker" mentality that cannot even vaguely grasp the complexity and interdependencies of the issues.
