Urgh we are back to having the 12h+ slots again, CoJ just can't cope with the 4 hour slots anymore

Looks very flat.

Hopefully the 12pm update is a good one!

Stage 5 is indeed that magic number, as 4 hours out makes people prep more.

All of the standard 7Ah batteries in gate motors, etc are specificied around 2.5 hour load shedding (Stages 2-4). As soon as you go into 4.5 hour slots things go bad (Stages 5 & 6). The gates seem OK (for now), because they use low power in standby mode. I just had to send a message to our Trustees saying that the electric fence energiser is not coping (which becomes a security risk). My ballpark estimate is R4K for an extra battery, box and fast charger.

Put a few of those big industrial batteries (with their own chargers) on all the security things when we started having major issues last year in JHB with stage 6. Can run everything security for a good week off the batteries before they even drop to 50%. Those small 7Ah batteries are a waste of time. it wasn't that expensive either, each battery was like 6.5k and a charger like 500. 1 runs the whole indoor security system, 1 runs the cameras and the other the outdoor security stuff.

Add a battery protector to the list.

I wouldn't add a battery protector for two reasons:
1. The energiser itself switches off when the voltage gets too low.
2. The whole point is to add a larger battery, so that it is unlikely to be drained during a 4.5 hour slot.
Ah, ok. If the energizer is aware of battery voltage, then all is good and ok.

Refers to the UK obviously, but still worth thinking about it in the context of the huge push toward renewables in developed countries...

The expected shortfall this evening is as much as 980 megawatts, which is larger than the current contingency requirement of 700 megawatts. The margin notice, which was issued by the Grid manager's control room, goes beyond the automatic warnings that have already been triggered several times this winter.

Why do they think Germany is burning coal? Cause renewables are reliable?
Yeah, this is why I kinda agree with eff on shutting down our coal exports.... we're being forced by eu and west wef cultists to go green cos 'climate', in turn adding to our already insane prices and adding to the **** of an already ****ed grind while they buy up all our coal on the cheap cos their green programs have failed.

Way I see it, coal mafias aren't interested if eskom burns coal or not as they make more by exporting, so they are happy to let the diesel mafias sabotage the plants so more diesel is required... need to force them into over stocked situation with no where to sell but to eskom where they are back to keeping eskom plants running and burning coal and out of diesel mafias hands... and so, reducing loadshedding

It would be one where I would weigh the options
As the grid gets smarter and more EV's are in the market they can store energy when its cheap (abundant renewables) then offload it when its not. Imagine shipping container batteries everywhere plus EV's all grid-tied. You could pay off your car in no time. Energy storage is just beginning. Give it time, we will get there. One thing for EV's to work is the worlds grid needs some serious upgrading. I'm keen to see politician's ideological wishes clash with cold hard physics kinda like what's happening with eskom.

It's already starting with long queues at charging stations and power problems at others.
