So that’s what they mean when they blame high demandwe DEMAND!!!!!
This will probably be the best/only near term solution imo. Adding thousands of megawatts of capacity probably isn't going to happen within the next 10 years so the best thing they can do is look at creative ways to reduce demand. They could perhaps rig up some sort of way so that during load shedding hours usage will be capped at 1kw/hour. This is enough for most people to keep lights, wifi, tv, etc runnnig. So with these new smart prepaid meters that are being rolled out, they state that they can cut your power if your usage is too high... Theoretically this will also allow them to loadshed the homes in the areas that are currently exempt, due to critical infrastructure in the area.
Also shed load on a more granular level, by switching off the homes, but keeping the street lights on. Am I giving them too much credit?
Does anyone know how many OCGTs and GTs there are in total??
14 diesel, 6 keresone , 6 IPP natural gas.Does anyone know how many OCGTs and GTs there are in total??
Where does the natural gas come from?14 diesel, 6 keresone , 6 IPP natural gas.
9 at Ankerlig 4, 148MW, 5, 147MW, Gourikwa 5, 2 148MW, 3 147MW.
Port Rex and Acacia both have 3 57MW generators
The IPP plants are 6 and each are roughly 150MW each
Ask the ipps? Seems they can use gas or diesel.Where does the natural gas come from?
What an odd place to have it in Ballito.Ask the ipps? Seems they can use gas or diesel.
It's twin is Dedisa which only does 335MW. There is a small ipp in Newcastle that uses gas think it's only 140![]()
Avon power station
Avon power station is an operating power station of at least 670-megawatts (MW) in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.www.gem.wiki
The other is in Port Elizabeth, cover the east coast? As the others are on the WestWhat an odd place to have it in Ballito.
I would think near a port of some kind like durban or richards bay makes more sense. The other is in Port Elizabeth, cover the east coast? As the others are on the West
It's called Port Elizabeth...I would think near a port of some kind like durban or richards bay makes more sense.
no idea why they aren'tIt will be looted before it hits the groundI would think near a port of some kind like durban or richards bay makes more sense.
A bit of a disconcerting trend is the increased time its taking on average to return units after breakdowns. Nothing that broke down last week has been returned to service as far as I know. The workers who are working around the clock (I see that is the new phrase slipped into all press statements) are seemingly breaking things rather than fixing things. Note that NONE of the 9 generators that tripped on Monday afternoon have been fixed (I'm assuming it's the same generator if the same power station was mentioned between Monday and now).
Yes, this seems to be something new.A bit of a disconcerting trend is the increased time its taking on average to return units after breakdowns. Nothing that broke down last week has been returned to service as far as I know.
I don't think it's not that don't they care. You can only duct tape so much.Yes, this seems to be something new.
Strange given their fears about the elections, unless they've given up some of their 50% dreams now.
Then again, this week's Carte Blanche came to the conclusion that they just don't care - it was estimated that to fix our national roads' potholes would take half a trillion rand...
Not really, some experts stated in an article here a few weeks ago that modern tech will keep the generators going and even manage some improvements.I don't think it's not that don't they care. You can only duct tape so much.
