This shows how resources were used to build-up the demand over the past 7 days, and it includes both generation and demand side resources that Eskom has contracts with.

System hourly demand and available capacity - Eskom Data Portal

Hourly demand is compared against available capacity, to indicate the amount of surplus/shortfall there was. Available capacity must be matched with the total RSA contracted demand.

The scale of a software limitation that will stop all electricity meters from working next year could be larger than currently estimated.

A software problem that will result in all prepaid electricity meters going dark next year unless they are updated may affect more meters than previously reported.

For context, electricity meters will become non-operational on 24 November 2024 owing to a date rollover problem, unless each individual meter is updated.

In this sense it is similar to the Year 2000 (Y2K) problem which threatened to cause havoc with computer systems at the start of the 21st century.
