You'll be shocked how little the rest of Africa actually generates, go take a look at Nigeria
Just a few clicks, and we can see ANC is bs as usual. It like going to the emergency with a serious wound that requires surgery and stitching, and getting a band-aid instead. Enough derailment from me.

It's like putting a band aid on a missing limb

They literally have too much generation.

Must be nice…
Their entire generation is not even one of our power stations, this excess generation is due to the 1300MW solar that was built and we can only buy from them when they have excess from it at off peak times.

Okay that puts it into perspective a little. Thanks.

70% of Africa doesn't even add up to the power we actually generate in SA, even at our worst we still are one of the largest producers of electricity in Africa.
Even one of the better African countries has loadshedding
In fact I was dealing with an IBM techie in Egypt in 2020 and he apologised that he had to go start his generator to keep the lab work going as he was scheduled for load shedding, he was going to explain it and I was like I know :-)

Seems to be a growing problem worldwide too. Some suggest it's a modern political tool / climate change extremists, who knows..
Think it is that, the biggest issue is that politicians fall for the solar and wind spchel and push it through as it's cheap. It's also not great to keep the lights on when there is no wind or solar.

Perhaps in 1st world countries, it's a political tool, here, it's just incompetence, corruption and lack of planning.
I think both, the anc have lost a lot of voters. Now they look like the heroes to some of them.

And of course the increase in demand worlwide also plays its part, so a complicated picture.

Total demand: 30 220MW
Interruptible Load Supply: 447MW
Virtual Power Station: 95MW
Eskom OCGT's Utilised: 3
Renewable Generation: 1 548MW (Wind 1 336MW, CSP 212MW)
@Eskom_SA Available Generation Capacity: 33 114MW

Looks like loadshedding is going be away for a while! System making over 33000MW now.

I've seen them drop 5GW in a day, in fact remember they dropped 2GW on Monday.

2GW drop, though it could just be demand was 2GW lower as well
