Total demand: 33 275MW
Loadshedding: 2 100MW
Interruptible Load Supply: 894MW
Virtual Power Station: 260MW
OCGT's Utilised: 19 (13 Eskom, 6 IPP)
Renewable Gen: 453MW (Wind 226MW, CSP 227MW)
@Eskom_SA Available Generation Capacity: 31 004MW

Making over 31000mw atm, thing are looking better. Seems the diesel might arrived also

Yeah technically with the Octgs, load shedding wasn't needed

Again, Eskom base capacity is pretty impressive *in context* but yeah, demand is also really high. Doubt we'd be having evening LS in summer.

This is also without Koeberg Unit 2 or the other big Kusile unit, which are both due to come back in early June.

Yup demand is high, normally only see it hitting 33GW in mid June through to August.

What is a virtual power station?

Ookfart-powered turbine?
Virtua Power Station is a regulated mechanism in which Eskom can ask certain pre-agreed customers, the alluminium smelters really, to switch off power for about two hours when it has shortages. The customer gets compensated for the loss of production, at a rate approved by Nersa

Ahhhh ok.... I thought it had something to do with generating power. So it is actually misleading.

It is in the Eskom sense, in reality a VPS is a system that is used to control various energy sources to be able to be used when needed, this would included load reduction, wind, solar, hydro, etc... So you'd have a VPS handle all of those and be like one PS.
But Eskom uses it for one purpose only.
