Hourly demand is compared against available capacity, to indicate the amount of surplus/shortfall there was. Available capacity must be matched with the total RSA contracted demand.

In a statement on the afternoon of Thursday, 13 April 2023, the utility revealed that its total unavailable capacity stood at an astronomical 24,424MW.

“Breakdowns have increased to 18,617MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5,807MW,” Eskom said.

At those levels, Eskom’s total outages are about equal to its current generating capacity.

Those are 2 hour sessions, and there's only 3 of them. This is what stage 6 looks like back home...

What in the world is load curtailment? I think it might also be manual load reduction. But what is Eskom doing? Cranking up some old engine?

Load curtailment is when Eskom asks large energy users to reduce their power usage so the smelters and all those guys

How does 6 + 4 = 7? How many MW is stage 4 curtailment?

Stage 4 load curtailment: something they just made up? Waiting for tomorrows charts, want to see this "stage 4".

They're shedding 6000 so the balance must be this stage 4 curtailment. Give or take. Obvious?
